David Rosenberg
03/06/1939 - 09/22/2024
David Rosenberg passed away in the night on September 22, 2024 after an illness.
David was born on March 6, 1939 in Port Arthur, Texas to Katherine and Mortimer Rosenberg. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1957.
David attended and received a Bachelors (1961) and Masters (1963) at Rice University where he was a resident of Hanszen College. David remained a lifelong supporter of Rice.
David worked as a chemical engineer for over 40 years working in New Jersey, Illinois, Aruba, England and Omaha, Nebraska before returning to Houston. In Omaha, he met his wife of 44 years Pat Rosenberg on the dance floor at a party at the Omaha Sports Club. Six months after meeting, Pat and David had a New Year's Day wedding in the living room of his parent's home in Port Arthur, TX. Pat and David later welcomed Daughters Katy and Liz.
David was a devoted husband and father, arriving to work before 6 am most days so he could come home and help his kids with homework and attend school events. He never missed a family dinner. He supported Pat's youth and education activism, especially Communities in Schools of Houston. On special occasions (and sometimes just a normal Sunday), he would take over the kitchen to make his famous Greek meatballs- a favorite of the whole family. In his spare time, David was an avid gardener with the yard to prove it.
David retired in 2004. In retirement, he and Pat traveled the world taking trips including China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and South America. He remained an economist at heart, continuing to track oil prices on his own spreadsheets and managing Pat's family farm. David and Pat met and developed a deep friendship with Tristan Love, a then student at Booker T. Washington High School. That friendship lasted the rest of David's life and saw Tristan's graduation from college, marriage and three children. At 75, he became a dog owner for the first time and had loving companions in Barnaby and later, Lady Ruf Ruf. When visiting his grandkids, he provided an ideal lap for sitting and listening to books for Maggie and Stephen. David was also a frequent author of letters to the editor of this paper.
David will be forever remembered by his loving wife Pat Rosenberg, daughter Liz Rosenberg and her husband Mihai Rosu, and daughter Katy Morsony, her husband Kevin and their children Maggie and Stephen.
A celebration of David's life will be held at the Southside Place Clubhouse, 3743 Garnet, 77005 on October 13, 2024 at 1 pm. The family asks for donations to Communities in Schools Houston, 1111 North Loop West Ste 300, 77008, in lieu of flowers.
