I believe that God only takes the best. Words can not express how I feel. I am still in shock and disbelief. You will be missed.

I grew up in a single family home and experienced some tough times as a teenager but the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Our High Priest, The Prince of Peace, the Alpha and Omega, the I AM God saw in His infinite wisdom to surround me with Godly Men and Deacon Winzell Lewis was one of those men. I praise God greatly this morning for allowing me to know such a soul who was a Rock at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church (PMBC) and most importantly practiced what he believed. He was faithful, gentle, encouraging and full of wisdom (in other words, he knew what words to use and when to use them). He spoke with a smile that told me (& boy did I need to know this as a teenager) that God is in Control and He cares and everything will be alright. Glory, Glory, Glory – Hallelujah for such a man!!!

I pray that all who attend the service for Deacon Winzell Lewis wake up with a spirit of thanksgiving. Thank God for his life, thank God for his household that he led so beautifully, thank God for sharing Mama Lewis and Bobbie who taught the youth choir at PMC when I was a young girl in desperate need for encouragement. Thank God for Yvette who has such a sweet and dedicated spirit to her family. Thank God for Sean who is in the ministry and sharing the Word of God with all. Thank God for Mario who knows God and is active in the church. Thank you, for your example, Deacon Winzell Lewis. You played an instrumental role in selecting the wonderful husband I have today!!! He is a lot like you. Deacon Winzell, we shall meet again, but it will be in our Father's house!!!!!

My condolences to
Mama Lewis, Yvette, Sean, Mario and the entire Lewis family

A loved one is a treasure of the heart and to have that loved one enter eternal sleep is like losing a piece of yourself, keep your heart beating with the loving memories of your dear Dad, Granddad, Uncle and my friend and lean not unto your own understanding, but "in all your ways acknowledge HIM and HE will direct your path."

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. One thing my Uncle Winzell has taught me over the years is to stay strong in the Lord and never give up. Uncle you will be missed a great deal and I thank God for having you in my life. When I think of a perfect example how to live a godly life I think of you. So thank you for showing and instilling that in me. RIP Uncle Winzell

Yvette,
Our thoughts and Prayers are with you at this time. May Almighty God give you the strength and courage to continue in life knowing that death is only a final journey here on earth. May you be reminded that God has promised us everlasting life with Him. So, as our journey ends here, it will continue in the presence of Jesus.

Brother Lewis was the nicest person when we were all growing up at church. He was always someone you can talk to. He live behind us a couple of streets down, and Barbara was the organist player when I was in the Jr. & Young Adult choir. I have known this family all of my life. To Sister Lewis, Yette & Winzel Jr. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers, God will lift you up from sorrow and give you strength to handle your love one lost.
