Delia Marie Lucky Stephens, long-time Clear Lake attorney, passed away October 29, 2025. She was born August 2, 1939, east of Temple, Texas, to James Richard Lucky and Mattie Barfield Lucky, the third of four children. She was a fourth generation Texan.
Delia was a 1961 graduate of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, Belton, TX, and remained a loyal alumna. She received a doctor of jurisprudence degree in 1981 from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Houston, Texas.
She was a long-time member and ordained elder of Clear Lake Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Taylor Lake Christian Church where her husband, The Rev. Billy C. Stephens, had served on the staff. She was a long-time member of Space Center Rotary Club. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She served on the board of directors of Bay Area Youth Singers and also on the board of directors of Rotary National Awards for Space Achievement.
She is survived by two sons and their families: William Carl Stephens, PhD, of Brooklyn, IA, his wife, Anne Marie, and their two children, Ella and Jack; and James Kelley Stephens, MA, of Overland Park, KS, his wife, Liesel, and their son, Sam. Her husband, The Rev. Billy C. Stephens, predeceased her in 2012. Her siblings, Ruth Lucky Jordan, Opal Lucky Weir, and James Richard Lucky, Jr., all predeceased her, as did her parents.
