Desso Douglas Obituary
1921-2016
Desso Douglas, 94, joined his beloved wife, Mary Lawrence, in heaven on Monday, April 11, while surrounded by family. A devoted servant, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Desso will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know him. He was a faithful member of New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church for 53 years where he served as a Deacon. He was most proud of educating his nine children consisting of a doctor, two lawyers, an engineer, two educators, a pharmacist, a nurse, and a stockbroker.
He leaves to cherish his memory seven children, James Matthew Douglas (Tanya); Ellis Williams Douglas (Carolyn); Micah Calvin Douglas, Emma Douglas Smith, Mary Douglas Carroll, Larry Burnard Douglas (Brenda) and Keith Desso Douglas (Melody), 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lawrence Dirden Douglas and two children, Icy Bea Douglas Hardy and Aubry Carter Douglas, M.D. A wake service will be held Friday, April 15, 6-9p.m. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 10am viewing with service beginning at 11am. Both services will be held at First Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 4420 Lyons Avenue, Houston, Texas. Rev. Arthur Douglas, Officiating. Interment - Paradise North, 10401 West Montgomery.

My condolences to the family of a great pillar.
i had a few opportunities to spend one on one time with Mr. Douglas as well as time with him and some of his children. He instilled oral history to all that would take the time to listen.I once asked him "how do a man from meager beginnings raise and educate all of your children into the people they are today".
He said through much sacrifice and following the golden rules.

My sincere condolences and prayers go out to the family. I was raised in the Kashmere Gardens community, graduated from Kashmere Jr. Sr. High School, Class of 65. I was a colleague of both Emma and Mary in North Forest. The Douglas family has always been a positive and encouraging force in the community. The mother and father created a powerful legacy.
