Dewey, also called `Al' by his friends, is survived by his wife, Hazel Stringer. Dewey and Hazel have shared their lives together since February 1, 1939, 69 years of devotion to each other. Together they have four children: Judy Stringer, and her spouse Ward Jones, Dewey Stringer and his spouse Katherine Pulse, John Stringer and his spouse Pamela Stringer and Jan Stringer and her spouse, Alan Hickman. He attended the Kincaid School until he went to college. Dewey went to A & M University to learn about animal husbandry; however, he left his college education early due to the death of his father and returned home to run the family business with his mother. Additionally, he served in the US Air Force, and flew B25 Bombers in World War II. After the war he expanded the Robin Hood Egg Company which served many people from Texas to Mexico. Dewey also was known for his Community Development in their home neighborhood of Garden Villas where he was the Boy Scout Master for many years and the Scout House still stands that he helped construct when his son Dewey was a young Scout. Always a Community supporter, he was a member of the Houston Gulf Way Rotarians and never missed a meeting year after year. Then transferred to the Brenham Rotarians where he was honored with the 50 years of perfect attendance. Additionally he was a Mason where he was recently honored for long time service. He was also known as an active member at the Garden Villas Community Church and personally remodeled the church with his own two hands. This project then led him to start Dewco Construction that had the reputation for working with churches; his company built and remodeled over 100 churches in Houston. In 1990, Dewey and Hazel moved from their Houston home to experience the country life style in Chappell Hill, Texas. There he developed the Pleasant Farms subdivision where they lived for their retirement years and entertained family and friends with fresh farm raised vegetables and BBQ's. Dewey was an active participant in the Chappell Hill Historic Society and enjoyed giving his expertise to help the community grow. Family members and Friends will remember all of the goods times that were shared with Dewey; all who know him would agree that he had a flare for having fun and a good time where ever he was. He was a man of many talents and skills who made a large contribution to our lives and the communities in which he lived. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 9th at the Garden Villas United Methodist Church at 7155 Ashburn Street, 77061 at 10:30 AM.

Was thinking about my dad and his work before retirement, and it was for Mr. Stringer. Dad enjoyed his years being the superintendent over quite a few church builds in Houston for Mr. Stringer in the '60's, then had to retire due to health reasons. Dad also died when he was 91. Blessed to have had him all those years. We were also very blessed through Mr. Stringer.

I have not seen Mr and Mrs Stringer for quiet a few years now but I will never forget them! As a Kid my Stepfather Bill Gentry owned property in Pleasent Farms. I would walk around that little community for hours visiting Hazel and Dewey, Jack and Jane. When I was about 12 I think Dewey had a premature Calf born and I loved that Calf I named her Cookie! I couldn't wait to get up, get dressed and run down to there house and feed Cookie! I wanted to take her home and raise her in the backyard and Dewey probably would have let me but my Parents said no! Just a little story to remind you how nice your Father was to others!
