Doug Wilson Obituary

Douglas Lamar
Wilson
1970-2021
Douglas Lamar Wilson, 51, passed away on August 18, 2021 in his home in Austin, Texas. Doug was kind, creative, and left a lasting impression on all who met him. Born in Houston, Texas on March 1, 1970, Doug was a wonderful husband, son, brother, friend, colleague, and artist, and inspired so many through his accomplishments, both musical and professional, and his endless creativity, humor, and warmth.
Doug was married to the love of his life, Abby Richards Wilson. The son of David Elliot Wilson and Dorothy Pesnell Wilson, he grew up in the Clear Lake area before moving to Northwest Houston where he graduated from Klein Forest High School. He was adored by his family and had strong bonds with his parents and his sister. Early in his life, he developed a love for music, the outdoors, and athletics. He graduated with a marketing degree from the University of North Texas where he studied both music and business. He was a brilliant musician and composer who was widely admired for his guitar playing. Doug played with multiple bands, most notably Sounds Under Radio. He enjoyed working in his home studio writing and recording original compositions. He was also an accomplished business professional, with far ranging expertise in marketing, communications, and technology, and was thriving in the cybersecurity field. He won multiple awards throughout his career for his business accomplishments, routinely being recognized as the most valuable team member no matter where he was working.
Doug traveled widely, including trips to China and Italy with Abby, and visited Egypt, China, and Peru with his father, David. He also traveled to Japan and throughout the United States performing his music. But wherever Doug went, people were drawn to his ability to connect with others in a way that was positive, uplifting, and memorable. He was an inspiring presence to others in every phase and category of his life and left countless positive memories with those who knew him.
Doug leaves behind many family members who loved him, including his wife, Abby, and his parents, Dorothy and David Wilson, his sister, Doni Marie Wilson, and nephew, Christopher David Wilson, mother and father-in-law Mary Catherine Richards and Stephen Everett Richards, brother Aaron Matthew Richards and sister-in-law Becca Dean Richards, and niece Gemma Catherine Richards.
Doug lived a remarkable life full of love and happiness and leaves a legacy of music and joy for all who knew him. Doug will be loved and treasured forever.
Services for Doug will be private at this time, but a true celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

I send my condolences to his family. I knew Doug in high school. He was one of the wittiest people I have known. Great personality. Great soul. He was an amazing guitarist and I knew he'd go far with music. Everyone who met him had a chance to touch lightning in human form. What a great guy. I only wish I had kept in contact with him more after we reconnected via social media. The world is a lesser place without him. I've been told we will meet friends and family when we reach heaven, and I certainly hope Doug is strumming a Strat playin' "When the House is a Rockin'" at the Pearly Gates when I come slidin' in.
