Elisabeth Laigle Obituary

Elisabeth McGinty Laigle
1931-2021
Elisabeth McGinty Laigle passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021, in La Grange, TX. She was born in Houston on July 2, 1931, the first of 4 children of Milton Bowles and Ruth Dreaper McGinty. She grew up in Riverside Terrace, attending MacGregor Elementary, Johnston Jr. High and San Jacinto High School for a year, where she marched with the Golden Gauchos. She graduated in 1949 from Chatham Hall, an all-girls boarding school in Chatham, VA. Returning to Houston, she enrolled at Rice Institute, graduating in 1953 with a BA in French. She was a member of the Pallas Athena Literary Society, where she made many lifelong friends On August 30, 1952, she married fellow Rice student George Arthur Laigle, a Mechanical Engineering major, in Trinity Episcopal Church where she had been baptized and confirmed. They were married for nearly 69 years. Elisabeth and George lived most of their lives in the family compound on John Dreaper Drive, named after her maternal grandfather. They attended St. Martins Episcopal Church where Elisabeth was a charter member, before moving to La Grange in 2017 to be closer to their son David and his wife Tomi. In addition to George, she leaves behind four children: George Milton Laigle, Ruth Louise Holmes and her husband John, David Louis Laigle and his wife Tomi, Anne Elisabeth Jackson and her husband John. Elisabeth and George had 5 grandchildren: Isabel Britton Holmes Sachs, John Dreaper Jackson, James Sorley Jackson, Elisabeth Astrid Jackson, and Lauren Elle Laigle. She is also survived by her three brothers: John (Jack) and wife Sherri, Thomas (Tom) and wife Patricia, and Milton and wife Margaret (Peggy). These siblings remained close throughout their lives, a circle that Elisabeth often said was one of her life's greatest blessings. Elisabeth's gift to the world was her capacity to love. For fifty years she hosted a Christmas Eve Open House for everyone she knew. She in fact dedicated her entire life to her friends and extended family and was a blessing to all of them. She will be truly missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home, 967 E. Colorado Street, La Grange, TX 78945. Visitation will begin at 11:00am followed by the service at 2:00pm. A private burial service will be held at a later date at Forest Park Lawndale, in Houston, TX.
