F. Conrad Obituary

F. Walter Conrad Jr.
01/04/1939 - 09/24/2022
F. Walter Conrad Jr., lifelong resident of Houston, passed away on Saturday, the 24th of September 2022. He was 83 years of age.
Born to Friedrich W. Conrad Sr. and Lorene Conrad, Walter spent his early years in the West University neighborhood, where he graduated from Lamar High School. He received his bachelor's degree in history from Princeton University in 1961 and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1964. Following law school, he served in the army as First Lieutenant of an artillery battery at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1964-1966, where he received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. Walter subsequently joined Baker Botts, where he enjoyed a career as a trial attorney specializing in environmental litigation ultimately heading the Houston Trial Department and serving on the Firm Executive Committee. He was admitted as an Attorney and Counsellor of the US Supreme Court in 1985. Colleagues describe him as a man of great integrity and a generous mentor.
After graduating from college, Walter married his high school sweetheart, the artist Nancy Conrad.
Outgoing and kind, with a keen intellect and wonderful sense of humor, Walter was devoted to and beloved by his family, and he was a loyal friend. An avid outdoorsman, Walter enjoyed hunting, fly-fishing, and hiking in Montana, where he was a summer resident in Kalispell. He loved to travel and went on frequent trips to Argentina and Scotland. He was a member of the Saint Charles Bay Hunting Club, the Coronado Club, and the River Oaks Country Club.
Walter is survived by Nancy; his daughter Jennifer Conrad and partner Dani Segura, son Paul Conrad and wife Mary; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Karl Conrad.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 8th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that donations be made to a The Houston Museum of Fine Arts, 1001 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77005.

October 7, 2022

Walter Conrad, my first cousin whom I adored and loved. Walter's mother was Lorene McLamore and my name is Patsy Lorene McLamore/DeBartolo. I was his mother's namesake. After I married Jack DeBartolo he loved Walter also. Walter was a man who loved life. He loved his wife and family and he loved to outdoors. He loved to travel. He was a man of adventure. Walter seemed to be capable to do anything he set out to accomplish. He loved his place in Montana. We loved going there and riding on the boat with him having lunch and lots of fun. Walter, we will miss your chuckle, your love, your kindness. I pray that we will see you again in eternity. Much much love from Jack and Patsy Lorene xoxoxo
