Fay Chan
1947 - 2013
Fay Chan Born December 8, 1947 in San Francisco, California, just one month after parents, Tuey Ying Wong and Joe Mon Fung Gor, arrived from China with children Jean and Leland, FAY JEAN GOR CHAN has reunited with her parents, sister Nancy, nephew Glenn Yeang, & many favorite aunts, uncles, and cousins in heaven on December 18, 2013.
She was a long-time Houstonian and later, a fun-loving Las Vegan. Surviving her are her beloved children Jason and his wife Claire Chan, grandson Jason Jr. Chan and daughter Jennifer Chan. Also sisters Jean (David) Yeang, and Linda (Jeff) Merrill; brothers Edmond (Beverly) Gor, Allan Gor, and William Gor; Nephew: Sherman (Debra) Yeang and sons: Andrew, Brian, Connor, Dylan; Nieces: Cindy (Albert) Tam, Susan (Larry) Cole; Rachel (Ben) Pun and daughter Haley; Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and life-long friends.
FAY was a compassionate and devoted mother, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt and friend. She loved being a creative, hands-on educator, tutor and mentor in both Houston and Las Vegas.
She was passionate about making a difference, fostering strong relationships, spreading happiness everywhere she went and creating the good. In Houston, she coordinated senior activities at her church and at various nursing facilities, volunteered as a tutor mentor to at-risk youth and served as an English as a Second Language instructor to both children and adults.
After retirement, she moved to Las Vegas to be closer to her children and was extremely active with [email protected] (a senior outreach program for people who seek the "love of learning.") She enjoyed her numerous enrichment classes and countless friends; she especially enjoyed serving as the OLLI fundraising/events coordinator and Sunshine Chair. She was a multi-talented person who also loved to read, sew, cook, travel, and spend time with her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the OLLI program at the University of Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada, or the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
FAY's celebration of life event will be held Jan. 5, 2014 at 11 AM at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 McLeod Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89121.
