Gene Oesch Obituary

The Reverend Dr. Gene Oesch
1930-2017
Gene Oesch died on Monday, June 5 after a brave battle with many health issues. He was 87 years old.
Gene was born in Valentine, Nebraska to Rev. Adalbert and Anna Oesch on April 2, 1930. He grew up in the Midwest; his higher education began at St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas and culminated with his graduation from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo. In 1955.
He is survived by the love of his life, Peggy, and six children: Rebecca (Jeff) Parsons, Marci (Bill) Bahr, Paula Clinton, Kristen Oesch Stubbs, Jonathan (Alex) Oesch, and Katie Oesch. He also is survived by seventeen beloved grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His parents and two sisters, Elizabeth and Lois, preceded him in death; one granddaughter, Kirby Parsons, also went to heaven before him. He and Peggy would have celebrated their 64th anniversary on June 7th.
He had a career of service to his Lord. In 1956 he was called to be the first pastor of Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas, and he continued as Senior Pastor for 40 years. In 2000 he was awarded the Doctor of Divinity degree by Concordia Seminary.
In retirement, he built a beautiful lake-house for himself and Peggy, and formed a contracting business that built 12 houses around Lake Cypress Springs. He loved learning, golf, tennis, fixing and building things, and his family. His greatest passion was his love for his Savior.
Funeral services will be conducted at Memorial Lutheran Church, 5800 Westheimer. Viewing will be at 1:15pm, and service at 2 o'clock Thursday, June 8, with the Rev. Ian Pacey officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. If you wish to honor him, a donation to Memorial Lutheran Church would be gratefully received.
Gene Oesch will be remembered as a good and faithful man. He was well-loved and he loved well.
