George C. Francisco III
12/21/1929 - 09/16/2023
George C. Francisco III died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, the 16th of September 2023. He was 93 years of age.
George was born in Houston on the 21st of December 1929, to Patti Bailey Francisco and George C. Francisco Jr. He attended River Oaks Elementary, Sidney Lanier Junior High School and the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia. He then attended college at Rice Institute and the University of Texas in Austin, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
George joined the United States Army and served as an officer in a tank division, stationed at various bases in the United States. He then returned to Houston and began a long career as a petroleum landman, including 35 years with Mosbacher Energy.
George's true passion was sailing, sailboat racing and anything involving boats and the water. He began honing his skills on the waters of Aransas Bay during summers spent in his mother's hometown of Rockport, Texas. With Texas Corinthian Yacht Club ("TCYC") in Kemah, Texas as his home base, he went on to compete in sailing events around the world as both skipper and crew, winning several Galveston to Corpus Christi offshore races, numerous local and regional events in various cruising and one-design classes, the Mallory Cup and the Dragon World Championship. He served as Commodore of TCYC and the Galveston Bay Cruising Association.
He was a skilled tennis player, playing numerous games with his friends at River Oaks Country Club, Houston Country Club and the Houston Racquet Club. George enjoyed bird hunting including duck, dove and quail. His and Trebie's homes in Kemah and Rockport were favorite getaways where they enjoyed time with family and numerous close friends for many years. Many of these friends referred to George as "Cigar" because he was so tall and thin.
He was a member of Allegro, River Oaks Country Club and Texas Corinthian Yacht Club.
George was a dedicated and loving husband to his dear wife Trebie, particularly as she began to experience health challenges, and to their children Drue, Robin and George. His warm smile, soothing temperament and sense of humor were a joy to all he met.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Trebie Perry Francisco and their children, Drue Boyles and her husband David, Robin French and his wife Anne, and George C. Francisco IV and his wife Lisa. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Perry Sharman and her husband John, Sharber Howell, Lloyd French and Eve French.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Amy Mynderse, MD and all of Trebie's and his caregivers, especially Sharon Hall, for their many years of loving care.
Family and Friends will gather for a memorial reception this evening, Wednesday, the 20th of September.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 21st of September, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston. For those unable to attend the service, virtual attendance may be accessed by visiting Mr. Francisco's online memorial tribute at
