Gerlin D. Taylor was born to Otto J. L. Kelm and Mary Seilheimer Kelm on August 13, 1920 in Washington County, TX and went home on August 22, 2017 at the age of 97. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Zionsville Lutheran Church in Washington County. During WWII she went to Dallas, TX to work in a factory building airplanes for the Air Corp. She moved to Houston in the 50's to work, and did until the age of 85. Gerlin was involved in her church no matter where she was a member and would serve in whatever capacity she was needed. She was a strong willed, independent lady who lived by herself up until June 20th of this year when her health started to decline. She didn't want anyone to make a fuss over her. Yet she would be the first to check up on someone if they had an issue of any kind. Though she had no children of her own she treated her nephews as they were. Her mind was sharp and keen, she could remember the day and year of family events even those from her childhood. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother Marvin H. Kelm, sister-in-law Elevera Kelm. She is survived by nephews Nathan Kelm, Marvin C. Kelm and his wife Cheryl, two great nieces Sarah Fletcher and husband Mathew, Lindsay Gumtow and husband Jesse, great nephew Zachary Kelm, great-great nephew Dakota Fletcher and great-great-niece Brooke Fletcher.
A visitation is scheduled for 11:30 am on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A chapel service will begin at 12:30 pm and the burial will follow.
