Gertrude Holloway Obituary

GERTRUDE ANN LEENEN HOLLOWAY was born May 22, 1910. Following her 94th birthday, Trudie went home to the Lord on October 18, 2004 and was reunited with her husband, her son, her mother, and other beloved family members. She left behind her children; Anne Holloway Landry and Ron Landry of Houston, Charley Denson Holloway, Jr. of Spring, Bette Holloway Remmert and Jeff Remmert of Spring, and Marie Holloway Crumbley and Bill Crumbley of Newnan, Georgia. She will be missed by her 27 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Trudie lived three full lives; the life of a fun-loving single woman for the first 36 years of her life, 17 years as a wife who gave her husband five children, and finally„the life as a world traveler in the last 25 years of her life. Those who have shared in the joy of knowing Trudie will remember her as a fun-loving woman with a gift for meeting people, an ability to match the talents of any country cook, and a grandmother who truly believed that she was blessed with the most talented, smartest, and loving of grandchildren. A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at Pebble Grove Cemetery in Maysfield, TX. Friends may make a donation to Vitas Hospice in Houston, TX (713-663-7777) in Trudie's memory if desired or flowers can be sent to Lindley, Robertson, Holt Funeral Home in Navasota, TX. Mother, we will miss you until that day you welcome us home.

She was my mother and best friend and I cherish every single second that I spent with her. I loved the way she loved my children and the way my children loved her. I loved the way that my husband always tried to make her life better and always succeeded. I loved that I got to hold her in my arms and tell her how much I loved her as she passed from this life. I think she loved the way I loved her.

As I lived next door to the Landrys for years, I always called her 'Mom', too. I wish I could have made her cinnamon rolls, chicken and noodles, beef vegetable soup or a cheeseball...just one more time. 'Mom' would always tell me the only time she ate well was when I'd be in visiting from Dallas. We'd both laugh because we both knew better! She had such a cute sense of humor! 'Mom' was always so interested in all her kids and grandkids and what all they were doing and would fill me in just in case I didn't know. She never dwelled on her own life or problems, nor aches and pains for her whole life was always about Anne, Ron and the kids, and the rest of her large family. She WAS quite a lady AND quite a character! That's why we all loved her so much. I know she's one of God's favorites now, too. Miss you, 'Mom'.

I got to know Grandma during the last bit of her life and fell in love with her like she was my own kin. I am thankful that I was able to be with her and her family when she went into the arms of JESUS. Anne, Charley, Bette and Marie, you are and will continue to be in my thoughts and my prayers during this time. Love, Denise

I was so sorry to hear Grandmaw Holloway had passed away. What a wonderful, sweet dear woman she was. I have such funny memories of her and the funny things she would say to me and my family. There was never a time I saw her that she didn't make me laugh. My children too have fond memories of the funny things she would say. Lil John said he always felt that she was his grandmother too! We will hold you all dear to our hearts and pray that God will keep you close to him.

With much love,

Karla, Rick, Nicci & lil John

There is no doubt what a great lady your mother was. Her devotion to her children, the story of her life's sacrifices to care for them, especially after her husband's death at an early age, is so remarkable and unheard of this day.

By looking at all her children and the love that was reciprocated from them to her, one could easily see Mrs. Holloway's life testimony. She truly had to have loved so much, to be loved by so many.

My deepest sympathies are with your family as you go through this valley of grieving the loss of your mother.

Not good-bye, but so long to a very special woman! Having had the priviledge of seeing you face to face for only a handful of occasions, I can honestly say, you left a smile on my heart. I will remember you as your open, honest and cheerful self...always!

For something that was eminent for so long, the loss of my mother in my life does not seem real. It almost seems a shock some days. I am fortunate that I have so many wonderful memories. I am also fortunate that the Lord allowed me these past 20 months to spend the time I wanted, to do the things I wanted to do, and to say the things that needed saying. I have no regrets. My mother was a woman totally devoted to her family. To the very end, she asked about Bette's move, Matthew's college, Britney's job, Alysa's trip to Mexico, Zaida's visits, Marie's current trip, Bryce's apartment, Logan's career plans, Charley's garden. She loved many...and she was loved by many. How fortunate I am to have been her daughter.

Goodbye to a dear lady who loved her children and gave of herself to them far beyond the years where most mothers were "retired".

I miss my Mother fiercely. She loved everyone so much and was always interested in anything that was going on. She loved to hear about activities or travel that her loved ones were getting to do. She took joy in everyone's accomplishments. Love you forever and ever.....your favortie daughter, Bette Mae Holloway Remmert
