Guadalupe "Lupe" Ramirez
07/10/1939 - 09/30/2025
Guadalupe "Lupe" Ramirez was born in the small community of Danevang, Texas in July 1939 as the fourth of nine children to Maria Luisa Zepeda Ramirez and Nieves Ramirez. Growing up, Lupe attended Danevang Country School and was later in the first graduating class at St. Philip's Catholic School in El Campo, Texas in 1955. Lupe went on to attend St. John's seminary in San Antonio and shortly after found himself in Victoria, Texas where he played football at St. Joseph's High School. He would go on to meet the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Mary Evangeline Jaime.
Lupe and Mary made their home in Houston, where Lupe attended the University of Houston and later began his career at National Glass. Motivated by his entrepreneurial spirit, he co-founded Lone Star Glass with his longtime friend, Joe Creswell in 1973. All the while, he and Mary would welcome three sons into the world, Stanley, Jimmy and Christopher. Lone Star Glass is proudly carried on today as a wholly owned, third generation, family business.
Beyond the family business, Lupe's greatest joys were his family and "The Ranch", which is located on the same land he grew up on. Known by some in the community as "The King of Danevang," the ranch was his sanctuary; a place where he could reflect, nurture his cattle, and enjoy the life he built.
Lupe was proud of his Lifetime Member status on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo International Committee, where he served as a greeter and translator for Spanish speaking cattlemen from around the world. However, the importance of generosity was never lost on him; always mindful of giving back - particularly to the Danish Heritage Preservation Society, local Volunteer Fire Department, and Holy Ghost Catholic Church (his parish of over 50 years).
During his sons' school-aged years at Holy Ghost School, Lupe immersed himself in giving opportunities for the Church; ranging from serving as the Booster Club president to fundraise for improved sports programs, parish council, participating in annual blood drives, and leading a group of Boy Scouts on a prestigious trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Lupe especially enjoyed donating one of his registered Beefmaster heifers for a special bazaar raffle every year. By combining his love for cattle and deep faith, he was able to give back to the church in a truly unique way.
Those who knew Lupe will remember his strength, determination, humor, and quiet but deep caring for the people in his life. On September 30, 2025 - True to his wishes, Lupe's final moments were at the beloved ranch, surrounded by prayers and the love of his life, Mary, by his side.
A legacy of love, resilience, and compassion will live on in his spirit, his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and in all the lives he touched along the way.
Lupe leaves behind his cherished wife of 63 years, Mary Evangeline Ramirez, his sons Stanley, Jimmy (Molly), and Christopher (Doris), his great-nephew Gregory Ramirez, and his beloved grandchildren, Rebecca (Tim), Rachel (Andrew), Ross (Emily), and Katherine (Ryan). He is also survived by great-grandchildren Leeland, Jude, Nolan, Case, Austin, and Isabella as well as his brothers Roy Ramirez, Robert Ramirez and sister Teresa Adame. Lupe was preceded in death by parents Nieves & Maria Luisa Ramirez, and siblings Janie Welch, Joe Ramirez, Ruben Ramirez, Raymond Ramirez, and Rudy Ramirez.
