To the Wisemans, I give you my condolences. You raised a very well rounded son. He was our neighbor and he was loved by all of us, he was fixing one of his bicycles for my son, and that was very sweet. We miss him dearly and I know I can't even imagine what you are going through. I hope God can guide you through this journey. I just wanted you to know he made an impact on our lives, and was very much respected. May he rest in peace, and may you all find peace in life.

Dear Wiseman family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I myself did not know Ian personally I knew of him from my son and his 2/4 Echo brothers. They all used the words mentor, friend, protector and respected leader. My son told me a story of a night he thought he might die in Afghanistan and his body was going into hypothermia. Ian was there and took care of him and my son feels saved his life. He will be missed and we will keep your family in our prayers. I know the loss will never go away so I just pray God's peace will fill the void and each day you will remember something special about Ian.

Words can't even begin to express how saddened I am by your loss. Having known you for a long time, in my mind I can picture a little blond boy, but what an outstanding young man he became. I know how proud you are of Ian, and I will never forget him and the service he provided to our country. Praying for you to find peace and strength. Love always, Beth Hammond

My prayers go out to Ian's entire family for this terrible loss. Ian was a fine young man and put himself in considerable harm's way in service to this country. Many thanks to him for that and the sacrifice of his family on behalf of all of us. I still see his 12-year old face in my mind's eye, all full of life and mischief along with his best friend, Andy Cullather--my nephew. May God's healing grace wash over you all.

To the Wiseman family,

My family and I wish we had the words to truly express our sadness and sorrow for your loss. As a parent of a son in the 2/4 family, I know your son's dedication to the Corps and to those under his command. They will never forget him or the skills, abilities, or integrity he freely gave and taught his men. He helped to make them the men that they are today. For that, we say "thank you." We can't begin to express our appreciation for your son's service and commitment.

Our hearts truly ache for you during this time. We can offer our prayers which we will be offering to God on your behalf in the days and months ahead. We will pray that the Lord will lead and guide you moment by moment and day by day with the peace, comfort, and presence that only He can give.

My father and brother were in the Navy. Dad was an avid collector of hymnals. He passed away several years ago from cancer but this past Christmas, my mother gave me a very special Christmas present. It was an Army-Navy chapel hymnal from 1942 that belonged to my Dad. I would like to share with you a prayer from that hymnal.

------------

O God, by whose grace Thy people gain courage in the way of the heroes of faith, we lift our hearts in gratitude for all who have lived valiantly, and for all who have died bravely for truth, liberty, and righteousness. Especially do we thank Thee for the heroes of the common good, who suffered and made trial of bitter sacrifice in achieving the freedom of religious worship and the measure of social, political, and economic liberty we enjoy in this good land. God of our fathers, help us to prize very highly, and to guard very carefully the gifts which their loyalty and devotion have passed onto us. Grant unto us the gift of a living and vigorous faith, that we may be like the heroes: that we may be true as they were true, that we may be loyal as they were loyal, and that we may serve our country and the cause of pure religion all the days of our lives; and grant that we with all those who depart hence in the faith of Thy holy name, may wear at last the victor's crown. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Army-Navy Chapel Hymnal, 1942, #28

I hope this prayer will minister to your family in the days ahead. Our thoughts and prayers will be close by.
