Isaac Heimbinder Obituary

Isaac Heimbinder
1943-2016
Isaac Heimbinder, philanthropist, lawyer, businessman, and loving husband and father, died in his sleep on Saturday March 6, 2016, in Houston, Texas. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he was 72 years old.
He and his wife, Sheila, co-founded the Saint Anne's Catholic School Foundation Bourse Scholarship for Diversity in honor of their good friend, the late Father John Robbins. The fund provides academic scholarships and ensures the student body reflects the enriching diversity of Houston. Isaac and Sheila have supported and actively contributed to grassroots arts and social justice organizations for more than 30 years providing opportunities for new ideas to take root.
¬¬¬
Isaac was an innovative leader in the housing industry for over 40 years, named among the "One-Hundred Most Influential People in America's Housing Industry in the Twentieth Century" by Builder Magazine. Among other notable achievements, he was responsible for innovations in the mortgage market in the 1980's that opened up the possibility of home ownership for millions of Americans.
His love of life and stalwart commitment to family and friends leaves a great vacancy in the hearts and minds of the many lives he touched.
In addition to his loving wife Sheila, he is survived by his daughters, Susan and Erin; sons, Daniel and Michael; in-laws, Jesse, Aimee, and Daisy; and his grandchildren Ruby, Ella, Liam, Gillian, Mirabelle, Heart, Heron, and Lorenzo, and his sister Fani (Alan) Weissman. Isaac was son to Evelyn and David Heimbinder.
Friends are cordially invited to a celebration of life and prayer service from two until five o'clock in the afternoon at the Bradshaw Carter Funeral Home, 1734 West Alabama Street in Houston.
A memorial service will take place at eleven o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Congregation Emanu El, 1500 Sunset Blvd. in Houston.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Anne School Foundation, Saint Anne's Catholic School Foundation Bourse Scholarship for Diversity, 2120 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77098.

I think about Isaac often. He was such an inspiration to me and those around me. He was also a voice of calm when we needed that. He led us through many difficult situations and he always seemed to know the best way to go. What he and Sheila did for Project Row Houses was so phenomenal. Their generosity and brilliance made it happen. I miss Isaac and when I look back on my 50 year career he and just a few other mentors made everything possible for me. That Houston list includes Isaac and Louisa Sarofim and a few others. I will take a moment today and say a prayer for Isaac´s family. Sheila, please know that I am thinking about you. Peace & love to you.

It is hard to believe that four years have passed since Isaac left this world far too soon. Not many days go by without me thinking about him and Im sure that even while it may not be at a conscious level a day doesnt go by that what I learned working with doesnt him influence how I go about doing my job. There is no doubt that the opportunity he gave me in taking on my first Regional role opened doors for me that I continue to benefit from today and has blessed me and my family ever since. Thank you Isaac for all you have meant to me. I can only hope that I impact the lives of others in ways that you have impacted the lives of so many.

For some strange reason I thought of Sheila and Isaac this morning. It's March 10, 2018 (2 years later) and I did a search only to find the obituary for March 6, 2016. Words cannot express the admiration I have for the Heimbinders, I served with them as a board member at Project Row Houses. They were instrumental in the success of that organization which is clearly flourishing today. Why write this now some would ask, when this will never be seen? The answer is simple. It is never too late to say thank you Isaac for your open heart to those in need, thank you for being respectful of individuals regardless as to their socioeconomic standing in the world, thank you for reminding me that wealth does not preclude an empathetic and giving spirit, thank you for being a wonderful example of how a husband and wife can compliment one another, thank you for your smile and grace, and thank you for being a true example of what a Christian should be! You are most certainly with the angels!!

I met Isaac in connection with the HBU museum essay contest sponsored by The Morris Foundation. I had been asked to help coordinate the contest so I met with Isaac and the Morrises. He was such a font of ideas and such a creative thinker - that was immediately clear to me. It was Isaac's idea that a student essay contest would help draw students to HBU's museums. It was a great idea and we ran with it! He attended several of our annual awards dinners. At our most recent dinner Lisa Simon announced the sad news that he had recently passed away. My heartfelt condolences go out to Sheila and his entire family. He will be missed by many.

My sincerest condolences to Sheila and the entire Heimbinder Family. I just found out. I worked with Isaac for many years at DiverseWorks and then later with Isaac and Sheila at Project Row Houses in Houston. There would be no Project Row Houses without Isaac & Sheila's generosity and vision. I am at a loss for words. I had no idea until tonight. My thoughts and prayers to the entire Heimbinder Family, most especially to Sheila.

Isaac was a client, but much more of a friend, for many years. He was wise and funny and deeply honorable, and the world is lessened by his passing.

Sheila, Susan, Daniel, Erin and Michael my thoughts are with all of you on this day. Isaac was such an amazing person with all the qualities that personified what a great husband, father, grandfather and friend should be. He contributed so much much in his life through his work in the housing market all the way to his love of the arts.I know that the values he held so dear will be carried on through his children and grandchildren. Sending all my love and prayers.

Isaac's passing is a great loss to the homebuilding industry as well as a personal loss for me. My heartfelt condolences go out to Sheila and the rest of the family. I had only met the two or three older children when they were toddlers back in the 1970s when we all lived for a short time at Las Caracoles on Belleair Beach.

I recall meetings in the 90s in Houston in which Bob Strudler, Isaac and I would talk about the state of the industry and our respective parts in it. Our meetings were always direct, funny and cordial. Those were good times. Later on, Isaac did some free consulting with us in Clearwater and I still have his memos and reports. Why? Because they were full of wisdom. I kept them for his insightful view of our business.

My condolences again to Sheila and the family. We will all join you in missing him.

I was a classmate of Isaac's at Erasmus Hall HS. For three years I laughed with him and conspired with him. I remember the schoolgirl crush I had on him with great fondness. I am so sorry for your loss.

My memories of Ike are from the seventies when he was a very effective and special participant in planning and executing the growth of three small home builders that were merged into becoming the largest home building company in the United States --- U.S.Home Corporation. We all shared special memories of the many moments encountered during those ten years --- and Ike stood out as a most creative and productive participant, but, most important, as a friend.
My sympathy to Sheila and family. Fred Fisher

To the Wife and Family of Isaac:

Isaac has been a real participating soldier in working for the causes of the homebuilding industry and those in the home buying marketplace for as long as I can remember....certainly back to the 1980's.
I got to know Isaac more so when he joined the Board of Directors of BuildTopia which today is a management tool for so many homebuilders...including our company.

He was a significant contributor in whatever he did and he became a real friend to those with whom he worked. I will miss his remembering me with holiday cards.

God Bless his soul and give strength to his family in this time of shocking loss.

My sincerest condolences to the amazing Sheila and their dearest family. Isaac will not be forgotten fur his brilliance in law finance and his creativity in bringing the housing industry to the place it is today. His emphasis on the customer experience and open caring treatment of the guest in the new home sales process was real and important and always supported in his leadership. A unique human being in so many ways, he will not be forgotten. May this person who worked so long and so hard in his life find his rest and peace in his next life. Respect and love flow to his family now and in the future.

All of Isaac's family are in my thoughts and prayers. He was a tremendous mentor to me and and even better friend. Much of what I've achieved professionally can be traced back to the opportunity Isaac gave me to shine on a larger stage than I otherwise might have. It is truly a gift that my wife and I spent Friday evening with Isaac and Sheila lingering over a long dinner as we caught up on family, mutual friends, and shared a few good laughs as well. It's an evening I will always remember when thinking of Isaac. Thank you Isaac for all you've done for me and meant to me, I hope we get to meet again someday in our Father's house.
