Jacob Woo Obituary

SSG Jacob Henry Woo How does one begin to write about such a fine young man? How does one reduce to words the love and affection this single, solitary soul brought into this world? Jacob Henry Woo lived just shy of 28 years, but in that time, Jacob truly lived. He met and married the love of his life, whom he cherished and cared for with compassion. He served his country to protect us all on foreign soil. He was a devoted husband, son, and brother. He enjoyed life and wanted everyone to share in his joy.
Jacob Henry Woo was born on May 21, 1985, and lit up the room as he did for the rest of his days. He grew up in Katy, Texas and attended Texas A&M where he met his beloved wife. In 2006, Jake enlisted in the U.S. Army as a tanker. While serving two tours in Iraq, his natural leadership qualities led to several rapid promotions to his current rank of Staff Sergeant. Jake recently started a new position within the Contracting Program at Fort Jackson, in Columbia, South Carolina, having been chosen from several hundred applicants.
Before his first deployment, Jake and Lindsey were married on February 3, 2007 and they shared six wonderful years of happiness and true love. Jacob Henry Woo left this earth on March 2, 2013. Jake leaves behind his wife, Lindsey Knowles Woo, his mother and step-father, Stacey and Bill Talbert, and his father and step-mother, David and Suzi Woo. He is also survived by his brothers, Zach Woo, and Nathan Talbert; sisters, Carrie Woo, Kate Talbert, Hilary Bowerman, and Shelby Poole. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, the Reverend Thomas Woo, and is survived by grandparents, Anne Woo, and Clayton and Elsie Salter. His extended family on Lindsey's side include parents, Katherine Knowles, Mark and Betsy Knowles; grandparents, Don and Dolly Joseph, Billy and Judy Knowles, and Patricia Allday; siblings, Justin and Andi Knowles, Jackson and Stephanie Dashiell, Caroline and David Higgins, and Kellie Dashiell. Jake will be sorely missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces on both sides of his family.
A military memorial was held at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina on Thursday, March 7, 2013. Funeral services will be held at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Zach Woo, Hudson Woo, Austin Woo, Nathan Talbert, Justin Knowles, and Captain Jackson Dashiell.
For those desiring, charitable donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Yellow Ribbon fund in memory of SSG Jacob Henry Woo.

I always wondered what happened to Jacob; we went to basic/ait training at Ft Knox together in 2006 and when we graduated that was the last I saw him. He was an awesome, kind-hearted guy and funny as hell too. One memory I have of him is when we were doing "live fire" with tanks and when the main gun came back it hit him in the head, thankfully he was wearing his Kevlar helmet. My heart aches finding out he´s gone but he´s at peace.

I did not know SSG Woo for long. I met him in our Contracting Tech School in Lackland AFB. As a member of our class he distinguished himself consistently as a hard-worker and a great person to be around. He will live on in all of his fellow classmates hearts and minds with his work and his dedication, as well as his creating our class legacy. I am very sorry to hear of your loss, my deepest sympathies go with you and your family. SSG Woo will not be forgotten.

I met Jacob at Ft. Bliss this past Janurary. While training with him, Woo shared experiences and stories with our team. We will always remember the time we spent learning and laughing with this great man. I wish you all the best, and continue to pray for your family.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. As are memories will always be filled with his laughter and dedication to getting things done. In the short time that we "Team Ithica" got to know each other, Jacob was a "Shining Star" even on the most dark days. He has touched each and everyone of us, especially me. As I look up to the sky I will be able to smile knowing that SSG Woo, is getting it done, as he did while here with us all. We celebrate in his life and home going and will always cherish his memory.

It is never easy to say goodbye to a soldier, much less one who helped to shape and improve the direction of our unit and office. SSG Woo, I hope you are resting in peace and know that we will not forget your impact upon all of our lives.

Jakey,
You are already missed by so many...It has been wonderful hearing from your superiors what outstanding work ethic you displayed; yet keeping your fun spirit in place. We LOVED seeing your cubicle, complete with your toy tanks and picture of you and Lindsey at the "happiest place on earth" when you took her there for her birthday!
Thank you for loving, adoring, cherishing, and protecting our baby girl these past six years. We have enjoyed having you in our family!

We covenant to watch over your wife and son very closely. They both loved you truly, madly, deeply.
You were my FAVORITE son-in-love/law!

...and I will always love you,
Momma
