Jim was a very important person to me. We shared many great times. Any time spent with Jim would not be dull. He was energetic and adventuresome. Scuba diving, skiing, parasailing. We flew in helicopters, prop planes and a glider. Remembering any occasion spent with Jim inevitably leaves me Laughing. He was very funny. A handsome happy fella with a great sense of humor. That and his enthusiasm made all things fun. It seemed to me Jim was just as interested in going to Paris Texas as Paris France. He would like to see it all. He was smart, but he also must have remembered everything he ever learned, he knew so much! Gifted as he was, Jim was naturally humble and he found delight in the company and talents of other people. My life has been blessed by knowing Jim.
To Doug,
It is very sad to learn of Jim’s passing. I love seeing the recent photo and the same happy sparkling eyes, looking like he could break out in Laughter at any minute. Or maybe he was going to say something very kind and loving. I have often thought of you and Puddie, beautiful inside and out. I remember your humor too when I do. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. It will be an honor to take up your suggestion, to think of Jim and do something nice for someone else.

Doug Jr. I have not seen you in over 50 years, but I was close to Uncle Doug and Aunt Gladys, having learned canasta, painting, and other good things from your Mom. Many pictures of visiting when they lived in Galveston. My Mom was your Aunt Eleanor and Dad, Jack (I know he was sometimes a big pain to his family). Anyway, I have read about all you and your wife "Puddie" and what you have done for humanity and I am so sad for you to have lost your only son a few days ago. I think grandmother would be so proud of all the successes her oldest son's progeny have achieved. Amazing, seeing as Uncle Doug was born when Florence was only 15 years old! Again, my condolences. To Mr. Pitcock and family, Although most of my memories of Jim are from Ms Kestenberg's class from 6th grade in Kolter, I remember Jim as being funny, nice, and I enjoyed sitting near him. We played many a sandlot game of baseball at Godwin Park together. After elementary our groups of friends changed and the last time I saw him was a few years after high school. As always he was friendly and upbeat and fun to talk to. So many share in your sorrow and our thoughts are with you.

I am so saddened to learn of Jim's death. Growing up just a few doors down, I knew Jim from elementary school through high school; for years after that, I'd see him on the street and have very interesting chats with him. I heart goes out to you especially given all your losses, and my thoughts are with you.

Dear Doug, Jim was my first boyfriend when we attended Kolter together. I'm currently living in Oregon but mom keeps me updated about my friends. She shared the sad news of Jim's passing and I want you to know how much he meant to me. I wish I had not put off contacting him in the past few years as I considered him a life-long friend and thought about him often. I'll remember his smile and laugh always.
My thoughts are with you as you grieve. I hope good memories bring you comfort.

Dear Doug,
This message is being sent by Lynn Stegall McKemie. My dad is TAMU Class of 49. He holds you in such high regard. He also does not know I am writing this as it would be difficult to explain. He has called me twice both yesterday and today to get your phone number and hopefully your address.
He is so sad to hear of Jim's death. He has been praying for you. I could only find a phone number and I just talked to Dad and he said he sent you a message via your voice mail.
My husband and I live in Houston and would love to meet you and take you to dinner. I know it would mean a lot to my dad for us to meet. If this is something you would enjoy feel free to contact me. John and Lynn McKemie

Jim was my best friend as children. He and his family were like a second family to me and provided the friendship that I needed during those formative years. Jim was always generous and kind , everyone was a potential friend. As you can see from his obituary he was one of the most intelligent people I have ever known. I count myself blessed to have known him and called him a friend. I hope and pray that he will now know the peace and joy he deserves. The bible says that there is a place for him, his sister and mother in heaven where there will not be any tears only the joy and peace of being with the Lord.
Your Friend always in Christ,
Chris

Most of my memories of Jim were when we were young and before graduation.I attended the same schools at the same time. I will always remember his generousity as well as his competitive spirit when we were kids. His parents home or Godwin park was the hangout and the family never turned anyone away. I am very sorry to hear of his death. I havent seen Jim in many years and I'm sorry for that too
