Jan King Obituary

Jan Murray Boss King
1925-2017
Julianne Murray Boss King died on June 5, 2017 in Bothell, Washington. Jan was born in Houston, Texas on November 2, 1925 and was the daughter of Wesley and Dorothea Bishop Murray. As a young girl her family lived at the Bayland Orphan's Home for Boys in Webster, Texas where her father was the director. It was there that she learned to ride her favorite horse Toby, which was often her means of transportation around the property. Jan returned to Houston in her teens, graduated from Lamar High School, and later moved to Dallas to attend SMU. In 1945 she married Willard I. Boss and eventually settled in Houston to raise a family. Jan was a devoted reader of good books, champion of the underdog, Unitarian and a lifelong Democrat. Following Willard's death in 1981, Jan met and married John O. King in 1984, and they enjoyed 16 years of marriage until his death in 2001. Jan is survived by her husband Roger Mills of Houston, daughter Sally and husband Gary Swenson of Seattle, son Willard and wife Elizabeth Boss of Houston, and son James and wife Melissa Boss of Waco. She was predeceased by her daughter Deborah Osmer of San Antonio and an infant son David. Jan was also blessed with eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She lived life to its fullest and her humor and unique outlook on life will be greatly missed. A celebration of Jan's life will be held September 23, 2017 in Houston. Family and friends of Jan are cordially invited to attend. Please contact Sally Swenson at "[email protected]" for details. For those so desiring, donations in Jan's name can be made to Planned Parenthood, Southern Poverty Law Center, or a charity of their choice.
