Bowman passed away October 15, 2014. He will be memorialized in Houston Thursday, October 23, at Congregation Beth Yeshurun at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Bowman was buried this past Sunday in Detroit, Michigan next to his parents, Harry and Helen Bowman, and sister Dorothy.
Dr. Bowman came to Houston after graduating from University of Michigan in 1979 and Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1983. He married attorney Carol Bartlett; they were blessed with a daughter, Dana. Nothing was more important to Jeff than his family. He loved to travel, to read, and anything to do with football. Most of all, Jeff loved to spend time with Dana.
Dr. Bowman was a passionate advocate for podiatric medicine. He served his profession in many capacities, particularly for the Texas Podiatric Medical Association (TPMA) and the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA). He served on the TPMA's Board of Directors, as Chair of the Governmental & Professional Relations and Political Action Committees, and as President; he served on the APMA's State Advocacy Committee and Center for Professional Advocacy Advisory Group and as Delegate to the APMA House of Delegates. Dr. Bowman received numerous awards for his service, including the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management (AAPPM) 1st Chairman's Award and the TPMA Distinguished Service Award.
In recognition of Dr. Bowman's outstanding leadership, the AAPPM established the Jeffrey N. Bowman, DPM, MS Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded annually to graduates of Dr. Bowman's alma mater, the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine (formerly Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine).
