Joe Garza Obituary

JOE A . GARZA, SR. 72, of Alvin passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 in the Mercy Health Center in Laredo, Texas. He was born November 17, 1929 in Boling, Texas to Felipe Garza, Sr. & Maria Feliciano Flores Garza. Joe was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin, Texas, charter member of Lulac & Past State Director. While he was a Lulac State Director he was honored by having President John F. Kennedy attended his function at the Rice Hotel in Houston, Texas, the day before his assassination on November 21, 1963. He was Executive director of HCCAA & was very active in local politics, Advocate for poor & was chairman for Tejanos Con Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents & brother, Ramiro Garza.He is survived by his children, Joe Garza, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Diana Medina of Houston, Texas, Mike A Garza of Newport Beach, California. Sylvia Maldonado of Houston, Texas, Carlos Garza of Houston, Texas, Larry Garza and wife Carla of Richmond, Texas, Vincent G. Garza of Pasadena Texas, Alfred Garza & wife Yvette of Houston, Texas, James Garza & wife Marisol of Baytown, Texas, J. Michael Garza & wife Araceli of Laredo, Texas, Elizabeth & Husband Gilbert Rodriguez of Laredo, Texas, Adrana & husband Vincente Moreno, Sr. of Laredo, Texas & Frank & wife Elena David of Laredo, Texas. Also surviving are his brothers & sisters Clemente Gaza & wife Janie, Remie Cuello, Martin Garza & wife Petra, Ramon Garza & wife Delores & Phil Garza & wife Porfie, all of Alvin, Texas. Also are 24 Grandchildren & 10 Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, May 31, 2002 at the Oak Park Funeral Home Chapel from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited Friday at 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church with Deacon Bob Kacz officiating. The Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin, Texas with Father Daniel McKenna O.M.I. officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Park Cemetery in Alvin, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Garza, James Garza, Frank Gerald David, Sylvia Maldonado, Diana Medina & Vincent Garza.
