John Linscomb Obituary

John Robert Linscomb Jr., 92, passed from life through death into God's loving presence in Heaven, Friday, August 31, 2012, from his home in Sugar Land, Texas. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Louise Linscomb; daughter, Cindy Linscomb Newlin and her husband Mike Newlin; sons, Dan and his wife Pam Kuhl Linscomb and Dennis and his wife Carla Ducote Linscomb; and grandson, John Robert Linscomb III, son of Dennis and Carla.
John was born in Orange, Texas on March 7, 1920. After graduating from Stark High School there, he worked as a master welder in the Port Arthur ship yards. He entered the Army for WWII, serving in the 8th Armored Division in Europe. While enlisted, he attended Army Air Force flight training school at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, but the Battle of the Bulge resulted in his being permanently reassigned to regular Army to complete his duty.
John married Louise Laughlin on March 5, 1942. They owned and operated a grocery store, the cornerstone of the community for 36 years, in Louise's hometown of Vinton, La. In 1982 they retired to Jamaica Beach, Galveston. After 23 enjoyable years they moved to Sugar Land's Venetian Estates in 2005, where he treasured his wonderful neighbors and friends.
John was a master woodworker, a member of the Woodworkers Club of Houston, and at 92, still enjoyed wide acclaim for his beautiful art pieces, which he both sold commercially and gave away as gifts.
No man was more beloved, and those privileged to know him, deeply mourn his passing. They are comforted in the certainty that John made the most important decision of his life: he accepted by "faith alone" Jesus Christ as his Savior, with whom he will now spend eternity.
In lieu of flowers, please direct any grace offering to Sugar Land Bible Church or Houston's KHCB Radio.
A memorial service will be held at the Sugar Land Bible Church, 401 Matlage Way, Sugar Land, Texas 77478 on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11AM. Reception to follow immediately at the Church hall.

The Nibletts Bluff Community was saddened to hear of the loss of Mr. John. I pass by the old store every day, and every day my heart longs to see Mr. John working hard in the garage, along with Mrs. Lou's beautiful smile greeting me as I walk in to get a cold drink or sweet treat! Your presence is dearly missed, but you live in our hearts until we see you once again. Love to Mrs. Lou and family.....(Chuck & Tee Smith's daughter)
