John Sturtevant Obituary

JOHN D. STURTEVANT, died on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 in Houston, Texas at the age of 91. He was born November 22, 1912 in Monmouth, Illinois to Anna Cameron and Edmond Robert Sturtevant. John graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1934, where he received his degree in accounting. He retired as Controller and Director of Exxon Pipeline Company in 1977. John is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, May Carroll Sturtevant; his children, Carolyn Sturtevant Eckert and husband, Christopher C. Eckert, and John D. Sturtevant, Jr. and wife, Karen Hall Sturtevant; and his beloved grandchildren, Paul and Emily Eckert, and Jackson Sturtevant. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 1, 2004 at two o'clock in the afternoon at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 4807 San Felipe, with The Rev. Dr. William C. Poe officiating. A reception will follow at the church. For those so desiring, memorials in honor of John D. Sturtevant may be made to St. Philip Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 4807 San Felipe, Houston, Texas 77056.

I'd like to express my sympathy to the Sturtevant family. I'm travelling today in Ohio, but wanted you to know that I'll be thinking of Mr. Sturtevant, a great tennis fan and a great friend of our family.

My father, Fred S. Wallace worked with Mr. Sturtevant for years, and always had nice things to say about him and how nice he was to my father. he was a kind man. Sincerely, Kay Jackson

I worked for Mr. Sturtevant for many years at Exxon Pipeline Co. I have many memories of the advice he gave me. May God be with you on his homegoing.
