Jonathan Munier Obituary

Jonathan Lewis
Munier passed away peacefully at his Houston, Texas home on March 4, 2014. Jon, the beloved son of Mary Jane Lewis and Ronald Munier, was born on December 12, 1955 on Long Island, New York. In 1973, he graduated from Anderson Senior High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then from Ohio University with a journalism degree in 1978. After a few years working for General Motors as a claims adjustor, Jon graduated from South Texas College of Law in 1983.
Jon began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney for the Harris County District Attorney's Office, where he developed his love of the law and also met his wife, Marie, on the first day at work. Jon prosecuted many serious cases in various divisions at the DA's Office, including the Special Crimes Division. Jon left the DA's Office after 6 years and entered into a successful criminal defense practice. Jon passionately defended his clients and was a beloved and respected fixture of the criminal courthouse throughout his career. Jon was known for his wit, his antics in trial, and his fearless nature. Jon's opponents never knew what Jon might say or do in trial, and he was awesome before a jury.
Jon lived life to the fullest and was a good friend to many. He loved his family, the law, Mustang convertibles, his red Harley, John Deere tractors, railroads, model trains and his Texas Hill Country ranch.
Jon is survived by wife, Marie Munier; mother, Mary Jane Lewis; father, Ronald Munier; birth father, Thomas Sholts; brother, Christopher Munier; and, sister, Valerie Voinis. Jon is also survived by his children, Erin Vander Poorten, Todd James Von Krosigk, Nathaniel Munier and two beloved grandchildren, Walker Von Krosigk and Meredith Von Krosigk.
Shortly before his death, Jon met and was baptized by Pastor David Leeland, Trinity Lutheran Church. Jon was grateful for Pastor Leeland's prayers and guidance in his final days.
A service to honor Jon's memory is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. The service will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1316 Washington Ave., Houston, Texas, with a reception to follow at 1244 Heights Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance or Trinity Lutheran Church.

I first met Jon when he was a "baby" prosecutor while working in CCCL#7 in the mid '80s. He was great to work with both as a criminal defense attorney and as a prosecutor. He will be so missed in the courthouse family. Marie, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I worked with Jon at the DA's office in the '80s. John was without doubt one of the wittiest and funniest guys I ever met. He was also a great lawyer to boot. Sad to see another colleague leave us.

To the Family of Jon Munier, you have my deepest condolances for your loss. I first meet Jon when i was assigned as an asst. Court Clerk in Judge Joe Terracina's Court, early Eighties . Right away you could see the passion Jon had for "the law". Even in misdemeanor court he handled every case with tenacity, integrity and pride in his work to do his utmost in every case. Jon was definitely one of the "Good Guys" .
God Bless

Condolences to Marie and Jon's family. Jon was one of the best guys at the courthouse. Always a smile on his face and great to be around. Twenty-five years ago he taught me how to be an ADA in J. Jimmie Duncan's court, and was always someone you could look to for good counsel. John was hilarious and one of the guys who made the courthouse a fun place to work. He was a great lawyer who was happy to share his experience and exceptional knowledge. Jon will be missed by so many. His family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

I did not know Jon until 2010, but I count it an honor and blessing to have had the opportunity to work with him and get to know him. When I first met Jon, I saw this tall, very kind man. I quickly realized he was also a very serious lawyer interested only in doing what was right for his client. Although we worked on a quite difficult case, he made sure he and anyone who would work with him and his law partner Tommy understood that the client was first and everything else came second. He was a man of great integrity. He was someone in whom I would rest confidence, not only as a lawyer, but also as a person. I will miss him. I will be praying for Jon and Marie. I will be praying for the family. I will be praying for those of us who knew him for just a little while yet are nonetheless better for it. May God bless you all.
In Peace,
Shelby Moore

Getting to know Jon while working in one of his and Tommy's cases, I loved his magnificent mane of white hair, his booming voice, his love of fun, his tenacity, his demeanor with clients and witnesses, and his how gentle he could be. It was a privilege to work with him. May the river have been kind in his crossing.
