Joe always had an endearing name for everyone. My family and I were the "across the street people". We are happier today because some of Joe's friendliness rubbed off on us. We loved you then and we love you now, Mike,Sharon,Ethan,Drew, and Leah

I am so sorry that I cannot join you today for your father's funeral. I am so grateful to Lisa for our very meaningful visit and connection last March when my husband Richie and I were out in Houston
As Lisa knows, I have very little information about my Mother, your Aunt so speaking with your father filled in some important holes.
I was impressed first and foremost by his memory of so many details of her life, as a child and in North Carolina and the extended family, I have trouble remembering what I did or eat two days ago and his recall of doctors who treated her and family members on my father's side was most impressive.
He also gave me new insights into her life and we were just talking about her and him Sunday night with friends who were telling us how their immigrant parents started out here. I related some of the information that my Uncle had told me last March
Obviously I wish I had had more time to visit and talk with him. It meant a lot to me that he called me three or four days in a row after we had met. He seemed genuinely happy to have met me and Richie. I think you are correct when you say he was a spiritual man. He made a direct connection with Richie. As you know I had very little contact with him through the years but I was very struck by the fact that he reached out to us when Rabbi Segal retired and suggested that Richie might want to apply for the job. What might have happened if that had come about
I hope we can continue to develop a relationship, based on legacy and heritage that we share
