Joyce West Obituary

Joyce Elizabeth (Knight) West
1958-2017
Joyce Elizabeth West passed unexpectedly on August 7, 2017 at her home in Memorial. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, David T. West, sister-in-law Connie L. West, Cousin Tim West all of Houston, and Cousin Stephanie West of San Diego, CA. She also left behind Nadia, her 9 year old Husky mix and Ginger her 5 year old Tiger Calico, both of whom she loved dearly. She had numerous relatives of her paternal (Knight) and maternal (Baker) families in East Texas and the Houston area including Frank Baker, Bobby Baker, Dale Baker, Kim Dudzik, and many many more. She had a very special family of friends in the White family of Houston including Carl White, Lucy Turoff, Elinor Tingley and their spouses and children. She also had a very special long term friend Richard Ludwig of Corpus Christi.
Joyce was born in Houston on August 17, 1958 to William (Billy) Knight and Frances Baker. Her parents, and her brothers Clifford and Wayne Knight, all preceded her in passing. Joyce attended Ross Sterling High and received Associate Degrees from Bauder and HCC. She spent the majority of her career at Houston Lighting & Power starting in the power plant project management area, then moved to the legal department, and finally Human Resources. She ended her 25 year career at HL&P as the Executive Assistant of Human Resources and enjoyed working with all her coworkers and particularly Susan Faber, who was her boss and friend.
While retired, Joyce was an ardent supporter of animal rescue groups and veterans/wounded warrior causes. Whether it be a dog (her favorite animal of all), cat, horse, tiger, and even burro's, she tirelessly did what she could to support their rescue and care. All of her pets were rescues and she had many through the years, typically three dogs at a time. Children's organizations that provided medical and food assistance world-wide were also favorite charities for Joyce. Basically, Joyce cared for the disenfranchised far more than for her own needs.
There will be a small private ceremony to spread Joyce's ashes at a location that meant very much to her. She was a truly beautiful lady, inside and out, and her wish would be for everyone to continue to support their charities of choice as much as they possible can.
