Kathy Nelson Obituary

Kathy Nelson
1955-2021
On Monday, February 1, 2021, Kathy Hall Nelson, wife of Bob Nelson, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving husband by her side. Kathy was a lifelong Houstonian, born in 1955 to Herbert Murl Hall and the late Margaret King Hall.
She was the youngest of three children and was loved dearly by her older brother and sister. As a child she enjoyed tap and ballet lessons, and could captivate an audience with her big brown eyes as she danced her way across the stage at every recital. She parlayed her dancing skills into new talents when she became a member of The Red Raiders Drill Team and eventually a Johnston Jr. High School cheerleader. She was a great student graduating from high school a year early. She followed her brother and sister to Austin to attend The University of Texas where she earned a degree in accounting. At UT, she participated in spirit and service organizations, was a member of Community Business Services and was a little sister to Delta Sigma Pi, a business fraternity on campus. Upon graduation, she had job offers from California to Texas and chose to come back to Houston to begin her career with Ernst and Ernst as a CPA.
In 1979, Kathy married Robert J. Nelson whom she met at UT. He was a CPA as well. After a few years of marriage they decided to become business partners and opened their own accounting firm, Nelson and Associates. As a member of the TXCPA Houston Chapter, Kathy volunteered her time to assist local charitable organizations with fundraising events.
Kathy and Bob enjoyed fun trips through the years to Hawaii, Great Britain and the Caribbean. But their greatest adventure by far was their 3,000 mile motorcycle trip across the eastern United States in 2005. Kathy loved her family. Celebrating special occasions such as graduations and weddings for her nieces and nephews brought her great joy.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret King Hall. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Bob Nelson, her father, Herbert Murl Hall (Elsie), her brother, Glen Hall (Carol), and her sister, Vicki Daughdrill (Hal). She is also survived by nephews Brian Hall (Elizabeth), Eric Hall (Christina), Jim Daughdrill (Libby) and nieces Andrea Hall Leggett (Zack) and Meg Daughdrill Flowers (Brian) plus a dozen great nieces and nephews.
Also surviving her is her sister-in-law Carole Watkins Teien (Scott) and brother-in-law Robert Watkins and former sister-in-law Shellie Evans (Sam) mother of Brian, Eric and Andrea.
Kathy was blessed to have wonderful caregivers the last few years of her life. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for: Iris Hernandez, Sharon Johnson, Martina Luna and Winnie Texada.
A memorial service for Kathy will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to a charity of your choice in Kathy's memory.

I am so saddened by the news of Kathy's passing. I extend my sincerest condolences to Bob, Vic, Glen and Murl. Kathy and I grew up in the same neighborhood and had been friends since Junior High. Our lives crossed off and on and later in life when we worked in the same office building complex. It was always fun to run into Kathy, Bob or Murl in the hallways. I even worked part-time with Kathy and Bob numerous years during busy season. She was the kind of friend who you could pick up an easy conversation with even though we might not see each other for a while. She always made me smile.

Happy memories of Kathy takes me back to working together in the concession stand at Willow Pool, Kathy driving me around in her Dad's VW Beetle, visiting Kathy at her UT dorm when she had to live in the basement, that same weekend visit getting expose to Hepatitis and Kathy ended up in the hospital, seeing Elvis with Kathy at the Houston Rodeo in the Astrodome, attending Kathy and Bob's wedding and one of their songs was Greensleaves, working part time with Kathy, Bob and Murl and enjoying each other's company on our lunch break. We laughed alot.

May you rest in peace Kathy! In my mind you are on that motorcycle ride across the country free of pain and illness.

My hearts and prayers are with your family. May her soul rest in peace. I will truly miss her. I’ve been doing her hair for over 10 years.

Mrs. Kathy was a very nice lady I always would think of Mrs. Kathy as royalty because of the way I would watch her husband, Mr Bob treat her like royalty so I had to get on top of my game, because he wouldnt allow anything less . There was one night, her and I had received a phone call from Sharon, saying our brother had passed away. So there were tears and Mrs. Kathy clearly looked at me and asked me if i was ok. Then reached over and kissed me on my cheek. That was the one I needed to dry my tears. I'll miss Mrs. Kathy and I know that God has gained another angel.

The night my brother passed, I was with Mrs. Kathy and I was crying. She reached over and kissed me on my cheek, then I looked at Mrs. Kathy and said very clearly are you ok? I love Mrs. Kathy, she was quite a lady and I looked at as royalty. That was my Mrs. Kathy and I will never forget her. She will always be in my heart. May you rest in peace, my friend.

She was a lady even as her sickness began to change her norm. She loved Bob, her eyes would light up when he came home and she knew she was loved. But the Lord called her name and she excepted gracefully, wings and all. Bob the bright light will shine again with the shadow of Kathy wings as an angel. Bob, Vickie and Glen you are all Blessed with her memories.
Sincerely
Sharon
