Larry Davis Obituary

Larry Wayne Davis
12/02/1951 - 09/18/2024
Larry Wayne Davis passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born in Houston on December 2, 1951, and was the son of Wayne and Ruth Davis who preceded him in death. He graduated from North Shore High School and immediately went to work for Hydril Co., where he worked for 16 years. After spending a year as a stay-at-home dad, where he honed his baking skills for Alex's kindergarten class, he worked briefly for Patterson Inspection Services before joining Harris County in the Public Infrastructure Dept. He retired after 21 years with the county.
Larry is survived by his wife and junior high sweetheart, Jeri Lynn Davis. They are the proud parents of Lucas Davis (Meghann) and Alex Davis (Amanda); and love spoiling their grandchildren, Ashley, Aiden, and Cole. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn "Susie" Clements (Tommy); brothers-in-law, Michael Mahaffey (Laurie) and Corky Mahaffey (Lisa); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Larry enjoyed cooking and baking for the various activities of his kids and grandkids including class parties, Boy Scout campouts, church fundraisers, birthdays, holidays and family gatherings. He joined Charity's Twin Stackers cooking team and became an award-winning BBQ cook at the Houston and Pasadena Rodeos as well as many other charity events. His ribs were the best!
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Houston located at 1320 Main St., Houston, at 1:00 p.m. A reception and visitation will be held after the service in the Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be directed to Wreaths Across America-Houston, 4582 Kingwood Dr. #247, Kingwood, Texas 77345 or Wounded Warrior Project. More importantly, Larry would want you to make sure the Texas flag is flying correctly, that you do a good deed every day, that you listen to "good" country music, and that you share one of his stories that made you smile.
