Lazard Brener Obituary

LAZARD SAMUEL BRENER, M.D. A man of genuine warmth and kindness, he died peacefully at home on January 24, 2003. Born in 1912 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he spent a year in Israel before returning to the States to complete his BA and MD degrees at Louisiana State University. He served his country in World War II as a captain in the medical corps. He settled in Houston where he was one of the early psychiatrists in the community. He was president of the Houston Psychiatric Society and numerous other professional organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dr. Zidella Seibel Brener; his children Marvin Brener, Daniel Brener his wife Sharon; grandchildren Jennifer Brener, Marc, Seth, and Joshua Brener. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Bobbie Adams, Debra Gains, Donna Johnson, and Patricia Vanright for their loving care of Dr. Brener. Graveside services will be held at 12:30pm at Beth Yeshurun Cemetery, Post Oak. Rabbis David Rosen, Jack Segal, and Hazzan David Propis will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute, 900 Lovett, Houston, Texas, 77006, or to the charity of your choice.
