Liza Easton Obituary

Liza Easton
05/08/1961 - 11/18/2025
Elizabeth Ragnhild "Liza" Easton died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on November 18, 2025. She was born in Tulsa, OK on May 8, 1961, to Elisabeth S. "Ziggy" and Robert L. "Bobby" Easton.
Liza grew up in Houston, attending River Oaks Baptist, River Oaks Elementary, Northwest Academy and Lamar. She graduated from Oldfields School in Maryland.
From early childhood, Liza was quite the swimmer and diver on the River Oaks Country Club swim team. She followed in her mother's footsteps as a Kickapoo at Camp Arrowhead (now Honey Creek) in Hunt, TX, where she was Big Chief and then a counselor.
Other happy memories included Terramar Beach in Galveston, swimming in the surf with siblings and friends and collecting sharks' teeth. In her teens, the family and a colorful constellation of friends spent time in Port Aransas and then Port O'Connor, particularly enjoying Sunday Beach.
The family enjoyed season tickets to the Houston Aeros ice hockey games. Liza loved to recall the time the Aeros team came out to the Kelley Ranch in Hempstead where she got to meet all the players, including her secret crushes. The ranch owners (Bolins, Dillons, Eastons, Godfreys) had a stable of motorcycles, and Liza and her sister Laura had fun trying to keep up with their brothers exploring on their Honda SL70s for hours at a time.
Her college freshman year, Liza transferred from SMU to TCU where she enjoyed being an active Theta with many friends. Liza served several companies well as executive secretary and office manager. Known for her expert filing and organizing, she eventually became a professional organizer with a list of satisfied clients.
Liza had a special affinity with pets and cute animals everywhere. She and Casey, her partner of 22 years, raised cats and Corgis, and Liza occasionally volunteered at the SPCA. That said, she was an avid bird hunter, having learned to quail hunt from one of the best, her father. She enjoyed shooting sporting clays with Casey, and Liza was a damn good shot with her Winchester 20-gauge pump.
Important to Liza was her recovery. She got sober on November 17, 1986, and worked the program with friends and fellows, including her three siblings and partner. She insisted that her experience at Sierra Tucson, two years into her recovery, be included here, for she dove deep into "family of origin" work, which she considered as important as getting sober. A key service commitment for her was co-chairing the Annual Houston Roundup, a highlight in the 12 Step community. She attended meetings at Lambda and the Post Oak Club.
Liza loved to paint at Pinot's Palette. Her home and office were decorated with dozens of her boldly colorful paintings, all with her trademark "Lizi B" signature. At 40, she surprised us all by solo skydiving out of a perfectly good airplane!
Whether Liza was hanging out at home or helping somebody pick new colors and fabrics for their home, she demonstrated good taste and a discerning eye. And to those who knew her well, Liza gave the best hugs and the warmest smiles.
Liza was preceded in death by her parents; and survived by partner Casey Wilson; siblings Robert Lewis Easton, Jr. (Lyla), Bennett Nicholas Easton, and Laura Armstrong Easton; and six nieces and nephews.
Liza endured many health issues over the years and was all too familiar with doctors, hospitals and emergency rooms. The final battle she fought was with acute erythroid leukemia (AEL), which came on very fast and took her way too soon. In the end, she declined chemotherapy and opted for supportive and palliative care so she could spend her final days at home, with family, friends and pets. Liza was honored to donate her body to Baylor College of Medicine.
For the last 10+ years, Liza struggled with memory; she wanted you to know that this kept her from reaching out in the ways that she would have liked.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 5 for family and friends.
If donations were to be made in her memory, Liza wanted to express her gratitude to the Cleveland Clinic (Crohn's and Colitis) as well as Houston Hospice.
