Lynn Hammond Obituary

Lynn Hammond
04/21/1953 - 08/29/2024
Dr. Lynn Katherine Hammond passed away peacefully on August 29th at the age of 71. Ever the life of the party, her glowing smile, generous laugh, warmth and sense of humor delighted all who knew her. She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother and friend to the very end. Lynn is perhaps best remembered for her generosity of spirit and ability to connect with people of all walks of life, no matter their background, language, or creed. Lynn's radiant beauty, inside and out, warmth and friendship, lit up every room. Simply put, Lynn made everything better.
Lynn was born in Spokane, Washington on April 21, 1953 to Vera Debra Topper Hammond and William Hammond. They moved to Houston in 1956, residing in Sandalwood. Lynn graduated with honors from Memorial High School in 1971 and played the flute in the marching band. At the University of Texas at Austin she played the piccolo in the marching band and graduated with honors with a B.A. in Biology in 1975.
Lynn received her D.D.S. from the University of Texas Health Science at Houston Dental Branch in 1978. She was inducted into the Honorary Dental Society at graduation. After four years practicing under a Houston dentist, she opened her own practice in Pinehurst, Texas. As her clientele grew, she purchased land and built a larger facility while still volunteering her time to speak to local schools and traveling to give free dental care in an organization called SMILES. Over her 46 years in the dental profession, she has had many accolades, affiliations and memberships in the dental profession. In 1997 she became FBI Certified for Forensic Dentistry to help solve a case involving a relative of one of her patients.
Upon retiring from her practice, Dr. Hammond served as an Associate Professor at the UT Health Science Dental School.
Lynn belonged to many clubs and organizations, playing tennis, bunko, golf and rounding up get togethers for dental school peers. She was a true friend, a gift… and loved by many.
Lynn is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband David Horn and daughter Alexandra Davis. Lynn and David traveled extensively and enjoyed collecting contemporary art.
A celebration of life service for Lynn will take place to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

I know that Lynn will be welcomed into the Higher Realms with Open Arms. Lynn took care of my teeth for many years, for which I am so grateful. I grieve, yet I AM filled with Joy, for another one of God's Beloved Children is back home, safe and sound.
