Marcella Haley Obituary

MARCELLA HALEY, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord on May 16, 2005. Born Marcella Dean Hosler in Cordell, Oklahoma on January 13, 1925, she was one of nine children in one of the town's poorest families. She sacrificed ambitions of college in order to work and contribute pay to her mother. Her jobs included a stint at the FHA in Oklahoma City where she met and married Sidney Haley in 1952. Three sons followed. In her years as a "company wife" Sid's work in the oil industry led to regularly packing and unpacking boxes in Colorado, Wyoming, Alaska, Chicago, and Houston. Throughout it all she knit the family together in her inimitable style, sewing clothes, shopping on a budget, baking elaborate birthday cakes, being a Den Mother, preparing picnic lunches, raising up lawns in new yards, always making the most out of whatever she had to make her family's life the best it could be. On her and Sid's 50th wedding anniversary April 5, 2002, her sons lovingly characterized her as a "domestic goddess" and she was. Starting with Sid's retirement she enjoyed trips to Europe and to their second home in Breckenridge, Colorado, as well as joining him in his activities with the 80th Infantry Division's veterans group of which she was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a great and enthusiastic player of contract rummy and relished the words "last card." She was a member of the Bammel Church of Christ and the 39ers Sunday School class. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Sid; son Al and wife Joyce of Abilene, Texas; son Curry and wife Cindy of Houston; son Keith and wife Trish of Chugiak, Alaska; grandchildren Michael, John and Cole Haley; her sisters Violet Lindsey, Dorothy Welch, Juanita Horn, Jeanice Morgan; and brother G. B. Hosler. Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005 in the Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home, Champions with interment to follow at Houston National Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to American Lung Association of Texas, 2425 West Loop South, Suite 330, Houston, TX 77027-4207.

I am deeply saddened by the death of my "other Mother" Aunt Marcella. What a loving and caring lady who brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. My Mom, Billie Jo, always considered her as her "special sister" and my Father said of her "She is no sister-in-law, she IS my sister!" I just know all of the Hosler siblings and in-laws who got to heaven first saved her a seat to get all caught up with the goings on in our world. Our family has lost a true treasure. She will be missed. As they say in the Navy when a VIP comes aboard a ship, they ring the bells in heaven and say "Angel arriving!!!" Fair winds and following seas my dear Aunt Mar......Much love always. To Uncle Sid, Al Curry and Keith, my deepest sympathies.

Your niece and cousin,

CDR Judi Jo, USN, (Ret)

I am certain my Sister will enjoy a manison prepared for her. The Lord said he would prepare a place for us, Marcella will enjoy the bright sunrises and the beauty of the night filled with heavenly bodies. She is free of pain and suffering and those who she left behind will always remember her in our prayers having been especially blessed to have her in our lives. May my saddness and sympathy perhaps be a comfort to all those who so dearly loved Marcella.

Her Favorite Brother, G.B. with love and caring for her and all of the members of the Haley and Hosler Family
