Marie Driskell Obituary

MARIE LYERLY DRISKELL passed away during the morning of Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the age of 86years. A native Houstonian, she was born on December 13, 1919 to the late Joseph and Julia Lyerly. Marie was employed by and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone as an Operator and was an member of the retiree group, AT&T Pioneers. She was a devout member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, serving the church in the Altar Society. Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, Alford Monroe Driskell on October 25, 1978. She is survived by her three sons, Stephen and wife Carolyn, Joseph and wife Kathy, and Gary; grandchildren, Terry Ann Johnson (Jerry), Christopher (Delanie), Byron (Mary Beth), Jason, Valerie Therrien (Mark), and Walter; Great-grandchildren, Emily, Caleb and Olivia; her brother, Edward J. Lyerly; sisters-in-law, Mary Lyerly, Virginia Mae Lyerly, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00pm with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00pm in the Chapel of Pat H. Foley Funeral Directors. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 10:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 501 Tidwell Rd. with Rev. Nicholas Harding celebrant. Rite of Christian Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery.

I worked with Ms. Driskell at SWB in the late 70's & 80's. She was a very kind and caring person. I often thought of her but was assured that whereever and whatever she was doing it was probably caring for others. She will be missed.

Gary, Mike, Steve, I know you will truely miss your mother; she was a precious lady!!!! I know I will miss her as well as mom. She once told mom that they were like sisters; always there together when kids were sick and they were truely family!!!!! Our prayers and thoughts are with you!!
