Marie St. Lawrence Obituary

Marie St. Lawrence
03/02/1929 - 09/02/2023
Georgia "Marie" Miller St. Lawrence passed away on September 2, 2023 at Bandera Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bandera, TX. Marie had been a resident of Juniper on the Guadalupe River in Kerrville, TX for three years. She and husband Roland R. St. Lawrence, moved from Houston to Kerrville in the fall of 2020 to have more support. Unfortunately, COVID reared its ugly head and caused lock-downs in the senior living sector. This complicated the access to family, activities, community dining experiences and even the friendly staff. Both Marie and Roland contracted COVID during this time. On Christmas day the love of Marie's life, Roland, went to the emergency room at Peterson Regional Medical Center. He was admitted to the critical care unit, where he died in Marie's arms on December 27th, 2020. Marie spent the next 2 months with her daughter grieving the loss of her soulmate of 74 years while quarantined for COVID. Marie never regained her natural vigorous health. This was the start of a two and half year downward spiral into a syndrome of decline. This was complicated by cardiomyopathy and Dementia. These factors all contributed to Marie's passing quietly during her afternoon nap.
Marie was born in Jacksonville, TX on March 2nd, 1929 at the Miller homestead to Clyde Perry Miller and Eula Buck Miller. Marie's early years were spent with her parents and grandparents who she adored. Her father Clyde was an aviator who built his own plane and dusted crops in the area. The young family relocated to Houston where Clyde worked for Goodyear and Marie went to school and Eula took care of their home on Ave. F. Clyde taught Marie to roller skate, how to ride her bike, how to swim and blessed her with his adventurous spirit. Marie graduated from Milby High School in the class of 1945 and started working for Goodyear. WWII was in full swing. She was charged with distributing gas ration coupons. She was a looker and loved dancing. A friend set her up with a blind date with a young sailor from Minnesota, Roland St. Lawrence. They married on November 7th, 1946.
Roland and Marie made their home in Houston. They had homes in Afton Oaks on Mid Lane, in Walnut Bend on Chevy Chase, and in Westcott Terrace on Westcott. She was an exceptional homemaker. Each home was decorated beautifully with a modest budget and was maintained to perfection. Marie excelled in administrative skills which served her well in her career as an Executive Assistant to Clive Runnells, Rancher, Philanthropist, and pioneer of cable television. She attended University of Houston to augment her skill set. She had a quick business mind and was an active force in a ladies investment club and in supporting her husband's marble business.
She was a loving mother of three. Always teaching, setting expectations of self-reliance and a strong sense of responsibility. The thread of these teachings travels through three generations of St. Lawrence offspring. Marie is survived by her daughters, Karen Renee St. Lawrence Scott (Jimmy, deceased) and Catherine Denise St. Lawrence Hedrick (Wyatt) and her son, Roland Perry St. Lawrence (Cindy). Her seven grandchildren Sean McFarland, Erin Nolte, William Hedrick, Marie Trammell, Brandon St. Lawrence, Corey St. Lawrence, Justin St. Lawrence, and 16 amazing great-grandchildren.
