Mark Schroeder Obituary

Mark Randall Schroeder
1962-2014
Mark Randall Schroeder, DDS, age 52, went home to the Lord on December 29, 2014. He is survived by his two loving daughters, Sarah and Sydney, parents, RJ and Leona Schroeder, brother Daryl & wife Carol, sister Cheryl Richardson & husband Dave, fiancé, Gina Karathanos & her daughter Ava, along with nephews, Mike & Matthew, nieces, Natalie, Kristen & Lauren ,former wife, Lisa and his dear friend & mentor, George Barfield, DDS.
Mark was born January 11, 1962 in Houston, Texas. He grew up loving football, cars, skiing and family time. Mark graduated from Memorial High School and The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Mark continued his education at The University of Texas Dental School and The University of Illinois-Chicago before setting up his Oral Surgery practice in 1991. Mark took pride in his profession becoming one of the most respected oral surgeons in Houston. When not working, Mark devoted his time to his daughters, coaching their soccer and softball teams, traveling to their volleyball tournaments and loved playing golf at Lakeside Country Club. Mark was happiest when he was with his family and his faithful dog, Bailey. His favorite place was his Lake McQueeney house where he enjoyed being out on the water relaxing. Mark was a man who wore many hats: father, son, husband, fiancé, doctor, coach, friend, teammate and boss. So many people were touched by his life.
The family wishes to thank his loyal office staff and friends, Horace Beard, Blake Burr, Doug Dawson and Rod Desrosches for their friendship and support.
Services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church at 3:30 PM followed by a reception.

I was going to recommend Dr. Schroeder to a family friend. He did my jaw surgery in 2001 and my husband's wisdom tooth extraction several years after that. I was so sorry to find out he had passed away. My condolences to his friends and family.

I was in disbelieve when I learnt about him passing away. It is sad to lose an excellent professional and charming person. I just saw him twice and that was enough to trust him as a Dr. My husband has the same feeling. R.I.P (tears) :(

I am so shocked to hear of Dr. Schroeder's passing. He was handsome, efficient, caring, gentle man. He was a talented surgeon. He fixed a front tooth knocked out at 14, when I was 43. I am so grateful to him - people don't even know I have a front tooth implant. Perfection. I was referring him and found out of his too soon passing.

Our family sends our love and condolences to Marks parents and children.
Mark is a very talented, bright and kind man. We first got to know him as an oral surgeon. He has taken care of all our children. He and Andy coached many young girls sports against each other for years and had nothing but respect for him. We have lost a great man but Heaven has gained one.

I was extremely saddened to hear about the unexpected, sudden passing of Dr. Schroeder. I am one of his patients, he was my oral surgeon for over eight years, he performed several dental implants for me. I was always feeling safe and secure in his hands, I was never afraid to sit in his chair. The results of his work are just outstanding. I will forever remember his beautiful smile every time I look in the mirror at my own smile.

May God rest you in peace, Dr. Schroeder, you will be sorely missed.

January 4, 2015

I met Mark when we were in 4th grade at Frostwood Elementary School. He was one tough hombre, especially on the Grid Iron. I didn't get to play with him on a peewee football team because he was much bigger than the average kid. But I knew someday we would play on the same team, and at that time, he would be a formidable linebacker that not too many running backs could score on him. Mike Luck was one those running backs. The results by playing on the same team with Mark: 8th grade Memorial Jr. High Football Championship team, and again on the State Finalist football team at Memorial High School.

His position of choice, linebacker. And in practice, being a running back, it wasn't too much fun to be tackled by him. So in our sr. year in high school, I so excited he became our full back. No more getting crushed by him in practice. Kidding aside, it was a good move. When we needed tough yards, he got it. He always like to give pain to the opponent. It's ironic that he became Dentist, not to mention being a loving dad to two beautiful daughters. Deep down he was a gentle giant, a true sweetheart.

The last time I spoke with Mark, it was at our 20th Memorial High School reunion. He looked great. It's so hard to believe he is gone. My 14 year old son said to me the other day, you build strong bonds with teammates you battle against in a physical sport, and it looks like you become great friends for a long time. That's so true. Even though I haven't seen Mark much over the years, but when we did, he always greeted me with open arms, not to tackle me but to give me a big hug of true friend, and I am honored that I got to know him.

My heart weeps for him, and I will miss his laugh. After being tackled so many times by Mark, as big as he was, he made me have courage to face my fears and to run as hard as I could to be tackled by him. I knew if I could take his punishing wrath, I could do anything. Not just on the football field but in life. I thank him for that. He will be missed. May God bless you Mark, your family and friends in these time of sorrow.

Your friend,
Paul Morales

Dear Schroeder family,
I have known and worked with Mark for 20 years. I first met Mark when I started working with Jeff Osborne and continued referring to Mark all these years in my own practice.
Mark was a great oral surgeon but when we talked I learned that he was even a greater husband and father! He always spoke of his family in ways only a loving father and husband would.
I will surely miss his expertise in taking care of my patients but mostly, I will miss our conversations about being a husband and fatherhood!
Matthew 25:21
"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. May the Lord comfort you in this time of grief and mourning.
