Marlene Edwards Obituary
11/16/1936 - 12/12/2025
Marlene Mary Edwards, born November 16, 1936 in Hinsdale, Illinois and passed into the Lord's hands at 89 years of age on December 12, 2025, embraced by her family. She was the third daughter of Gladys Mary Murphy Drolet Brettman and Herbert Peter Brettman. Raised in Hinsdale, Illinois, she graduated Hinsdale Township High School, Stephens College, and American Airlines Stewardess School.
She met the love of her life, George Royalty "Rook" Edwards in Dallas in 1957; and after a whirlwind courtship, they married. She and Rook raised two children, David Brett Edwards, and Deborah Marie Davenport, EdD.
Marlene was predeceased by her father and mother, her beloved husband George, sisters Lois Carr and Doloris Cunningham, and niece Cheryl Carr. Marlene is survived by David, Deborah, her grandchildren, Jeffrey Davenport and Lana Smith, her great-grandchildren Parker Smith, and Mason Smith; and her niece Kimberly Cunningham.
Marlene devoted over 50 years of service to the Girl Scouts in both Houston and nationally. She received numerous awards, served on the Board of Directors, and was a member of the Juliette Low Society and the Emerald Circle. One of her specialties was Girl Scout history from its beginning in 1912 forward.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and funeral service to be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., both at Earthman's Funeral Home, 8303 Katy Freeway. Graveside service will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery family plot in Waco.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Marlene's memory to the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, 3110 Southwest Freeway, Houston, 77098; and specify: The Emerald Circle Endowed Scholarship Fund.
