Mary-Ann Bellatti Obituary

Mary-Ann Abbott Bellatti
02/24/1945 - 08/05/2022
Mary-Ann Abbott Bellatti, a longtime Houston resident, died August 5, 2022 in Houston, TX. Mary-Ann was born February 24, 1945, in Tulsa, OK, one of two daughters of William Siler Abbott and Ann Gaither Abbott. Her dad was serving in WWII and was deployed to New Guinea at the time of her birth. Mary-Ann grew up in Stillwater, OK and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1963. She graduated from Pine Manor College in Wellesley, MA with her AA in 1965, before continuing her education at Oklahoma State University where she earned her BA in 1967. Mary-Ann graduated from the South Texas College of Law in May 1987, magna cum laude. She worked for Social Security Administration until she earned her JD, and then she worked as a partner at Sheinfeld, Maley & Kay in Houston, TX. Mary-Ann served on the Board of Directors for Texas Lawyers' Insurance Exchange until her death. During her adult life, Mary-Ann also resided in Newport, RI, Corpus Christi, TX, Dallas, TX, and Oklahoma City.
During her childhood, Mary-Ann had opportunities to travel with her father on his business trips, which fostered a lifelong love for travel, culture, and art history. She traveled the world with friends and family and enjoyed experiencing life as a local. Some of her favorite places she visited were Hong Kong, Ethiopia, Colorado, and London. Mary-Ann enjoyed shopping, both at home and afar. She had a special place in her heart for antiques and found pleasure in decorating her home with her finds. Mary-Ann and her sister, Rebecca, had a close relationship, and Mary-Ann often visited Rebecca's family in Oklahoma. Mary-Ann adored her nieces and helped instill in them a sense of adventure, independence, and determination, encouraging them to travel, try new cuisines, and pursue their goals and dreams.
Mary-Ann is survived by her sister, Rebecca Abbott Schroeder and her husband, Alan, of Claremore, OK; two nieces, Amanda Melton and her husband, Colonel Thomas Howard Melton II of Owasso, OK, and Megan Lee and her husband, Dr. Eric Lee of Owasso, OK; and 5 five great nieces and nephews, Henry, Matthew, Keira, Clara , and Madelyn. Mary-Ann also fostered many meaningful friendships throughout her life and will be greatly missed by all who called her friend or family.

I am so saddened to hear of this loss. I did not get a chance to show my appreciation. MsBellatti was the sweetest person who cared for everyone. She had an open mind and heart when it came to racial and gender. Ms Bellatti was my inspiration for pursuing law. She was just the most nicest and kindest person and I will remember her always
