Mary Rapson Obituary

Mary Rapson
03/26/1932 - 02/26/2023
Mary Lou Brown Rapson, age 90, of Houston, Texas, died Monday, the 27th of February 2023. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1932, and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. She graduated from Rice University in 1954. She was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, a docent at Bayou Bend Museum, a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, a member of The Forest Club, and enjoyed playing bridge in several bridge groups. Her Texas roots were deep. Her great, great, great grandfather Isaac Van Zandt, who in 1842 was appointed Chargé d'affaires to the United States by Sam Houston, and during his tenure in Washington, worked for the annexation of Texas to the Union.
She is survived by her two sons William James Rapson III of Houston, and Michael Hendricks Rapson, his wife Carolina, and her only grandchild Florencia of Curico, Chile, and her nephew Richard Carter of San Antonio.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Bayou Bend Museum, Houston, or Fondren Library, Rice University, Houston.

Jimmy and Michael - the Rapson family and the Roe family lived two doors down from each other on Meadow Lake. Your mom and I continued our friendship over the years through Bayou Bend and a women's breakfast club. She was a smart, fun friend who was truly interested in continuing to learn until the final curtain fell. I know you will miss her greatly. Best wishes, Peggy Roe
