Mel was my client and great friend for 42 years. Mel was an Eagle and as you know " Eagles don't flock" There will never be another MEL POWERS

Mel & my father, Bob, were dear friends & business associates for most of my life. Daddy was one of few who was still in regular contact with Mel to the very end. So many memories come to mind; so many images of the man who was the REAL Mel Powers... He was incredibly kind; generous to a fault; relentlessly driven; fiercely loyal to & protective of family, friend & country. Mel was larger-than-life yet humble, down-to-earth and, yes, a bit eccentric! Mel gave so much to so many, time & again providing opportunity to those in whom he saw that spark of potential, regardless of their 'resume' - never seeking recognition for his benevolence, not merely living but pursuing life with all of the vigor, conviction & passion of a man who knew - and repeatedly proved - that ANYthing is possible through hard work, determination & persistence. I count myself blesed to have known him. My deepest & most sincere condolences to his family & friends.

My sister-in-law, Iris Pagan, served Mel as his housekeeper when he lived in his penthouse on the Southwest Freeway. He provided my family many opportunities to enjoy free performances at the Arena and to enjoy his condo in Austin. He even sent a limo to pick us up at the airport when we returned from the Carribean. He was always a gentleman to the family. Mel will be missed..

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to Garrett, Danielle, Debra, Kristine, his lifetime best friends that remained loyal Jan and Philip, and Zolia his loving housekeeper and careprovider that was with him until the very end. Mel was a major positive influence in my life for 37 years ; always giving me advice and lending his ear. "Special" people never truly leave us...we carry them in our hearts forever. May the road rise up to meet him and the wind always be at his back. I will cherish his memory for the rest of my life for I loved him so. I hope the remembrance of his smiles will somehow bring back good memories. May he rest in peace and finally be free of pain. May God Bless his beautiful soul. I will miss you Mel.

I new Mel when he was a neighbor in Nassau Bay. So many memories come to mind of the late 60's and 70's. I hope you are blessed during this very difficult time and will be there to pay my condolences.

Please accept my condolences on the death of your Uncle Mel. While in law school, I knew him. His sudden death is tragic and heartbreaking. I wish he could return as his funny, wisecracking self. The world is a lesser place without Mel Powers in it.
I wish I had words that could make your pain less. But at least you know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you grieve.
In sympathy,
