Pat Moore Obituary

Pat Howard Moore
1930-2018
Pat Howard Moore passed away peacefully in the early hours of July 30, 2018, two years after receiving a diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis. A 3rd generation Texan, Pat was born in Laredo on September 16, 1930 to Odette & Howard Moore. Pat studied engineering at Rice University, earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He was a natural athlete and was proud of his high school & college participation in football, basketball, track & field, swimming and diving. During Pat's final years at Rice, he met Elsie Mae Crossman, his future bride.
After graduating from Rice, Pat served with great pride in the military near the end of the Korean conflict as an investigator in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps.
He enjoyed a successful career spanning over 40 years in the international engineering and construction industry which included oversight and development of a myriad of projects worldwide.
Professional and business activities included directorships on the boards of various construction industry, banking and civic organizations. He was a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and was registered as a professional engineer in the states of Texas and Louisiana. Pat took an unexpected departure from his chosen field to assume the presidency of the Navasota Telephone Company due to his stepfather's illness. He managed the family-owned utility for five years until the death of his stepfather, James Martin, after which he resumed his career in engineering.
Pat remained dedicated to Rice University, serving on the Rice Board of Governors and as Chairman of the School of Engineering Advisory Council. He was also named an Outstanding Engineering Alumnus at Rice University in 2005. He later conceived of and taught a class in ethical decision-making for engineers at Rice for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife of 64+ years, Elsie Mae Crossman Moore, his 2 daughters, Linda Ford and Margaret Moore, his son Andy Moore, and 2 granddaughters and their husbands: Allison & Randy Fuller and Erin & Blake Palmer, and 4 great grandchildren: Barrett, Levi & Myla Fuller and Madelyn Palmer.
A memorial service will be held Saturday August 11 at 2 pm, at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, 5404 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, the Salvation Army of Williamson County or to the Rice University Civil Engineering Department, in accordance with Pat's wishes.
