Im So sorry for your loss. Your right in my area im from Pittston. This dreaded disease has inflicted my best friends son he was DX Jan.15 2010 he was 10 at the time. His main Tumor was the size of a volleyball with many tumors around. 2 golf ball size in the neck one between his ribs size of a potato. He had 5 rounds of Chemo in the neck they were gone and the one between the ribs miracle. He took this chemo that would kill a horse like a champ. unreal this child is. They heard of a new trial and contact the Dr.'s in New York where he had his surgery chemo shrunk that big tumor to smaller then a tennis ball. He had surgery took out all the tumors, the lining between the abdomen and stomach was riddled with tumors to many to count. He made history by receiving the 131 8h9 antibody its direct radiation into the abdomen to latch on to the microscopic cells and all the scans showed that it is working. So to anyone reading this there is NEW HOPE out there for this horrible disease. He had this all done at Sloan Kettering in New York. If anyone needs any other info you can contact me.

My best friend Zaq Childers, 17, was just diagnosed 2 days prior of the new year 2010. He has DSRCT in and on his heart and was given 7 months to live! Yesterday (Friday January 8th, 2010) he had a very important doctor's appointment that was hopefully going to answer most of everyone's questions. Miraculously, they looked at his x-rays from the neck down and they were unable to find his tumor. This could be the best, but it could also be the worst. If the worst, it has moved to his brain and will give him an earlier death sentence. If the best, his body has washed it away and it is long gone! I am cherishing every moment with him and everyone is holding their breath for January 18th, 2010, the day we find out! Spread the Love! DSRCT can and will be beat!

Hi - we are doing research for my 18 year old step daughter who has either desmoplastic or Ewings sarcoma. It has already spread, but she is being treated at John Hopkins. Patrick looked like a beautiful man. Our Kristy is too. I ask that Patrick, in heaven, watch over our girl and intercede with the Lord for her life.

To The Scranton Family: We have just received the notice of Patrick's passing and we wish to send you all our condolances. We lost our lovely Grandson 23 years old (David Gilbert) in January 08 from DSCRT what an awful Cancer this is. My daughter son-in-laws are partaking a cycling ride to Niagara Falls for research into this Cancer. She has collected $25,000 up to now. David as well as Patrick were too young to die and had so much to offer this world of ours. David had not really started his life he was finishing his last year for his college degree when he was taken ill. Our thoughts are with all the family as we also know the pain and probably always will. We all loved him so much. Now we all want to get research going to stop this happening to any more younsters or adults.
Sharing your pain. Janet & Mike O'Neill and Sally and Stephen Gilbert.

I don’t know if I was Pat’s best friend in college, but Pat was my best friend in college. We played basketball, went tubing, attended Longhorn games, took road trips and generally hung out together. One year we even took a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, during which I met my future wife. If Pat had not planned, coordinated and invited me on that trip, I would never have met my wife, who bore me two children. Pat Scranton changed the trajectory of my life. Without Pat, everything turns out differently.

After I graduated from Texas, I moved away. I lived in Central America, California, Arizona, South Carolina and, finally, Georgia, where I live today. Pat and I kept in touch for many years, but over time we gradually lost touch with one another. The other day I did a Google search on Pat, before calling him to find out if he would be interested in attending a Texas game in the near future. Like me, my son is a big Longhorn fan and I thought it would be wonderful if he could meet Pat.

Words cannot express the sorrow I am feeling. I guess I thought that Pat would live forever. I am still having trouble believing that he is gone.

I’ve met many fine people in my life, but none finer than Pat. He was such a loyal friend. He was kind, generous, and good-natured. He also had a wicked sense of humor. To say that he was fun to be around would be a huge understatement. Pat loved to do things. He was never happy being sedentary. Some of the best memories of my life are of moments spent with Pat Scranton. Pat never put you down. Pat never lost his temper. Pat was always in a good mood. It was exciting to be with Pat. You never knew what he would think of to do next. Drive to Dallas to see the Sporty Plaids at Ground Zero. Go tubing after a rainstorm. Fly to Phoenix, Arizona to buy a Corvette. Take a trip to Mexico over Christmas break.

As I think about my life and what lies before me, I am mostly concerned, of course, with my children. My son is in the process of turning into a young man. I wish that he could know Pat Scranton, because I can’t think of a better role model. Pat lived every day to its fullest. There were no wasted moments. I am not at all surprised to hear of the many lives Pat has changed and of the hope he has inspired among DSRCT patients as a result of his courage and compassion.

But since my son cannot know Pat Scranton, I will have to do the best I can to teach him the things that Pat taught me. Treat people well. Be grateful for each and every day. Do not be afraid to take chances in life. Cherish your friends. Stand up straight. Admire the world. Trust in the Lord.

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day

Dear Patrick

I only came to know about you while I was surfing the net tonight for more info on Liposarcoma for my Aunt Julie and stumbled on your website on DSRCT which appear to fit my uncle's diagnosis of the type of sarcoma. The oncologist has not concluded his report but from the signs and symptoms before his surgery and the tumour that was removed from his abdomen on 13 Sept 07, I believe it is DSRCT.

Nevertheless, I pray hard that it is not DSRCT when he sees us tomorrow with his medical findings. It is so unfair that good people like you and my uncle would have to suffer such terrible cancer.

Hope you rest in peace, Patrick and may you reborn cancer-free in your next life. God Bless your Soul.

Hero's sometimes become angels, no matter what their made of. As an extreme sports junkie, I've learned that every time we do what we love in accordance with basic spiritual guidelines and fear no evil and dedicate ourself's to our pursuit of happiness while helping those around us achieve their own we are doing godly work. If God gave man the mind to understand our world today, what's wrong with it, the mind to invent something to sour through the skies, land a man on the moon, return him safetly to earth; he's a great one weather he created our beautiful planet or stuck out his finger to create the big boom, it doesn't matter as long as we can appreciate it. Personally I've skied Germany's highest mountain, made 147 skydives, 19 base jumps, been knocked out ranking 17 out of almost 200 in extreme fighting matches(still love a good whack to the head) I've had 6 concusions and appreciate life more than I ever have before. I blame it all on my mom because she told me that I can do anything I set my mind to. I used to mourn peoples deaths, but now look at it like a blessing, because that's when we become free. I don't want to think about death, and if I don't go to heaven, but get reincarnated instead I hope to return as a falcon, the baddest bird on earth. If you ever see one doing barrel rolls you'll know it's me. Came to a site to learn to build the ultimate Humvee for my adventures, and found a friend. You'll be missed. Glen

My heart goes out to the whole of Patrick's family as I know too well how hard it is dealing with this terrible waste.
