Patrick met his future wife, Cassie, while attending college in Houston, Texas. They eventually married, spent the next 61 years together and turned out to be the "the love of his life".
Patrick was a proud Alumnus of St. Pius X High School and the University of Houston.
As a mentor and leader of our family, Patrick will be remembered for his unique ability to motivate, teach and inspire others, despite his demanding schedule.
Patrick always made time to attend his boys athletic events, cheering them on and supporting their teams. In addition to Patrick's bloodline boys, he found time, energy and love in his heart to be a surrogate father to a number of neighborhood friends of his boys even though Patrick always was a busy man, waking up before sunrise and arriving home after dark.
Patrick served his country and was a proud member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. As a service member of the Army, this discipline and duty, reverberated in Patrick's persona. Many that didn't know him thought he was too detailed and demanding, but things got done to perfection, or at least to Patrick's way. He will always be respected, loved and appreciated for his hard Love.
As a life long Roman Catholic, Patrick received the prestigious Serra Club Award for outstanding service to the Catholic Church.
As a founding member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Spring Texas, Patrick served on the Parish Council to create fundraising events that allowed them to pay off the original mortgage loan used to build the church.
Patrick was fortunate to pursue a professional career with Marek Brothers, a privately owned drywall company in Houston, Texas that lasted 60+ years. His leadership helped the company establish residential branches in the Austin & Dallas markets.
After the first 25 years of employment with the Marek Family, he was promoted to Division President by the Marek's and spent the next 35 years managing the drywall operations in Houston, Dallas, Austin and in many states across the United States of America.
Some of the highlights he accomplished during those 60 years at Marek included:
--- He created a drywall trade organization in Dallas, Texas (Disca) that was modeled after the trade organization the Marek's created in Houston and served as President and the Board of Directors' for many years.
--- He organized a massive drywall team in Houston, as requested by the President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, to begin his campaign of Habitat for Humanity, where we built 100 houses from "raw land" to "move in" in one week.
--- He organized several drywall companies in Houston to build the the 1st "Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition" project in Houston for a needy family, where we built a 4500 sq. ft. house that would normally take 5 months to complete, but got built in 4 days.
--- When the "oil bust" hit Texas in 1985, we used our Texas drywall team in five East Coast states, to install drywall on many multifamily projects until our drywall market returned to Texas.
Patrick enjoyed spending time in the Texas Hill Country during the weekends with family and friends at "the lake" in Spicewood Texas on Lake Travis. He took pleasure in entertaining family, friends and business associates while enjoying time on the lake.
Patrick loved the "fast life" by owning many high-performance cars & motorcycles. He was an avid boater where he spent his early years boating on the San Jacinto River in one of his jet boats, and later he graduated to more exotic High Performance Offshore Powerboats and was a longtime member of the Lake Travis powerboat Association (LTPA).
Patrick also owned and was a managing partner of the private marina in Ridge Harbor and ran the Spicewood Yacht & Marina Association (SYMA) for 20 years.
Patrick enjoyed music. He learned to play the accordion, saxophone, piano & guitar. He created several rock-n-roll bands during the 60's and played at many venues around the city.
Patrick also enjoyed playing many sports with is favorites being tennis & golf.
He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Cassie. He enjoyed spending time in many countries throughout the world including Europe, Canada, Mexico and many places in the USA.
Patrick was a legacy member at the Lakecliff Country Club in Spicewood. He also served as Committee Chairman of the Villa/Cottage committee for the Lakecliff Property Association.
Patrick was beloved by his family and those close to him for his generosity, undeniable loyalty and faithfulness to the Lord. He will be greatly missed and he will be welcomed into the arms of the Lord and into the kingdom of Heaven.
Special thanks go out to Fannie Dobbins & Marie Scott who provided the loving care of "Pop's" until the very end. They will hold a special place in our hearts, especially since they took care of Mom while helping her navigate through this difficult time.
