Patsy Finch Obituary

Patsy Ruth Sengel Finch
1933-2023
Patsy Ruth (Sengel) Finch passed away peacefully at her home on January 8, 2023 in the company of her beloved children and grandchildren. Patsy was born in the city of Dallas, Texas on August 8, 1933 to Merrill 'George' Sengel and Erma 'Jane' New Sengel. Although not born here, she was a lifelong Houstonian, a city that she loved, and grew up in the Rice University area.
Patsy graduated from Lamar High School in 1951 and attended both the University of Houston and the University of Texas, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta. While working at the old Humble Oil company in downtown Houston she met the love of her life, John Ignatius Finch, and was married in 1954. Patsy and John went on to have four children, settling in 1962 in the Town and Country area of Memorial at the residence that would become their home for the rest of their lives.
Patsy was characterized by her complete devotion to her husband, children, and her grandchildren and by a sunny disposition that never showed anything but smiles and kindness to others. If something was troubling her one would never know it; whenever she answered the phone you could hear the smile in her voice when she greeted you with an upbeat 'Hi, honey'. She always put others, friends as well as family, before her. In their old age, Patsy took care of both her parents and her in-laws, to whom she was particularly close. She converted to the Catholic faith upon marriage and was a devout practitioner, attending Mass every Sunday without fail. Her faith was a constant source of strength for her and her prayers for her children and grandchildren both sustained her and those for whom these prayers were directed.
In short, she was God's gift to all who knew her but especially to those of us who called her Mom.
Patsy is survived by her son Kevin, daughter Jayne Ann (Boyd) and son-in-law Steven Boyd, son Allan and wife Giovanna, and daughter Julie; by her grandson John Boyd and granddaughter Julianne Boyd; and by her sister Susan Myers and brother George 'Sonny' Sengel. She is preceded in death by her husband John, who passed away in November of 2019; by sister Jane Ann; and by father George and mother Jane.
The family would especially like to thank her longtime caregivers Rose Long, Alice Ward, Dorothy Hill, and Sarah Leach for their many years of devoted and loving attention.
A visitation for Patsy will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
