My memories are of Paul when we were very young. We went through school together, K-12. When we were very young, he was "my boyfriend". IN 2nd or 3rd grade I got to school on Valentine's Day and he had left a heart-shaped box of candy on my desk. I have a picture of us at the 6th grade graduation party where we are dancing. At that point I was about a head taller than him but it didn't seem to bother him at all. Our younger brothers were best friends and our moms became good friends as they both spent a lot of time at Travis Elementary with PTA and other school projects. We didn't interact as much in junior high or high school, until the last couple of months, when we went out a few times and he was my date for the senior prom. Then he went off to the Air Force Academy and I to Texas Lutheran. That fall his mom asked my mom to talk to me about writing him occasionally as he was feeling a little homesick. So we corresponded during that time. We both ended up at the University of Houston. We lost contact after graduation. Our paths crossed only a couple of times, the last being a few years ago at a funeral of a dear friend. We caught up on each other's lives, but what I remember most was how proud he was of his children. I am glad to know what a wonderful and interesting life he led. MY condolences to his family.
