Pete Louis Obituary

PETE LOUIS came into this world on January 15, 1920 and departed on May 7, 2007. He was one of nine siblings born in Tickfaw, Louisiana to John Solar and Rosa Scardino Louis. Pete came to Houston when he was 17 years old and worked as a messenger for Western Union. In 1939, he returned to Louisiana to marry his high school sweetheart, Nina Cannino. Pete continued to work as a messenger then moved on to become an assistant manager at a Henke and Pilot grocery store. Pete and Nina were blessed with two sons, John Joseph and James Edward. For the next 40 years, Pete worked as a machinist for Reed Roller Bit Company on Navigation Blvd, until retiring in 1982. Pete was a charter member of the St. Dominic Catholic Church serving on many committees. He earned the 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus in 1998. Pete and Nina were very close to their St. Dominic Church family and their community. Pete was preceded in death by his son, James Edward Louis, all his siblings, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nina; his son John Joseph Louis and wife Pat; daughter-in-law Sheila Louis; grandchildren, Lisa Usry, Kellie Gomez, Kim Hughes, Kevin Louis, and Jennifer Kline; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The family extends a special thank you to Odyssey Healthcare Hospice nurses and caregivers who added to the quality of Pete's last years. We also want to thank Liz Farber for her love and support. A special love and appreciation is expressed to Yvonne Sosa, caregiver, for always being there when needed. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 6:00 pm. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to begin at 7:45 p.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church at 8215 Reservoir St. Houston, Texas, 77049. A Mass will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church with burial to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

Uncle Pete, I miss you so much. You were so neat to be around. Always picking at us kids. But you are in a better place and with all your brothers and sisters now.Lots of Love Ones there with you to share the love of God and Jesus with you. I spent the week with A. Nina and she was doing real good. She is so lonely but she knows God is with her and she will be fine. Until we meet again, remember us to Jesus and tell him we are ready when He IS. lOVE YOU
