Peter Nelson Lang

Peter Lang Obituary

PETER NELSON LANG, husband, father and friend, passed away from cancer Monday, May 7, in his home in Seabrook, Texas. He was 72. Born July 8, 1934, in Hinsdale, Illinois, Peter was the son of Charles and Madeline Lang. He worked in the transportation industry for more than 25 years, a career which brought him to Houston in 1976. Living close to the water inspired him to make a change and enter the sailboat business in which he quickly became top salesman at Southwest Marine and soon thereafter Vice President. A job with benefits, the Lang family cherishes many memories of sailing in Galveston Bay with friends--skimming the waves and riding the sails! During his spare time, he renovated the family home, a talent for design and construction that was entirely self-taught. This talent segued into a career with Private Sector Initiative's (PSI) Home Savers in which he retired in 2003. He had fond memories of many of the people that he got to know and work with at PSI. Peter was considered by many as a "renaissance" man, someone that somehow knew something about everything. From rehabilitating birds to designing massive kites to carving, he never failed to amaze us. While retired, he became very involved in his wife's side business creating custom iron pieces that included crosses, garden gates and furniture. Peter led a full life, one that included adventure, exotic food and good scotch. Later in life he became a bit of a homebody, preferring to relax in his beautiful backyard oasis with wife and beloved dog Callie or visiting with friends and neighbors. He has left behind his wife Jackie; daughter Angie Bertinot and husband Jerry of Houston; son Michael Lang and wife Mary and grandchildren Sean and Caitlin of Chicago, Illinois; and many other dear relatives and life-long friends. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Anyone wishing to honor his memory can make a memorial contribution in his name to: The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at www.mdanderson.org
