Peter Neisig Obituary
PETER ANDREW "ANDY" NEISIG, Jr. passed away at his home on December 24, 2004, at the age of 90. Andy was born November 4, 1914, in Danevang, Wharton County, Texas to Catherine Elise and Peter Andrew Neisig. The family lived in Danevang, farming cotton and running a small store, until the death of Andy's mother. Andy then moved to Houston where he lived with relatives and graduated from Reagan High School. He married Vera Cecelia Pratt on February 4, 1934. They were blessed with sixty-three years of wonderful marriage and three sons. Andy worked many years for Lynes, Inc. and Baker Hughes in the manufacture of oil tool packers, first as a machinist and ultimately as superintendent of manufacturing. He retired in 1977. During his retirement, he volunteered his time to the Manna Food Pantry where he manned the telephone. Andy and Vera enjoyed the company of family and friends and often entertained at their house on Lake Houston where Andy enjoyed boating and fishing. He loved to drive and he and Vera traveled throughout the United States. Each spring he looked forward to a drive to see the Texas wildflowers. Andy was a devoted brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was a loving caregiver to both his sister, Nadine, during her decline with Alzheimer's disease, and Vera, throughout her struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was preceded in death by Vera, who died in 1997. As a member of Oaks Christian Church for over 35 years, Andy enjoyed activities and social events with the Seekers Sunday school class and traveled throughout Texas with the Golden Travelers group. The last several years of Andy's life were brightened by his close friendship with, and affection for, Frankie Schreiber, a fellow member of his Sunday school class. Andy's children, and their spouses, all of whom survive, are: Pete Neisig and his wife Becky of Houston; Russell Neisig and his wife Sarah of Midland, Texas; and Donald Neisig and his wife Burke of Houston. Andy had six grandchildren: Mark Neisig, Becky Roth, Linda Cole, Jennifer Ross, Stacey Kok and Andrea Bates, all of whom survive him. Andy was the proud great-grandfather of twelve great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Rachel and Samantha Roth; Carter and Mitchell Cole; Michelle, Blake and Austen Alvarado; Will and Hannah Bates; and Emily and Andrew Neisig; all of whom survive him. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Eugene Pratt and his wife, Agnes, of Houston, his half-brothers Tom Neisig and Jerry Neisig, of Refugio, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Nadine Beagle, and his half-brothers Robert Neisig and Allen Neisig. During Andy's last days he was given compassionate care by Ella Davis, Kettlie Dupiche, Artwana Brock and Charlene Stubblefield of Home Instead Senior Care, and by Bobbie Dunstan and the staff of Life's Solutions Hospice Care, to all of whom the family is deeply grateful. The family will receive visitors on Monday, December 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home. After a private graveside service at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, a memorial service will be held at Oaks Christian Church, 1216 Bethlehem (at Ella Blvd.), Houston, Texas, on December 28, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. J. David Hargrave officiating. A reception at Oaks Christian Church will follow the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to Oaks Christian Church, 1216 Bethlehem, Houston, Texas, 77018.
