Ray Knox Obituary

RAY KNOX A Memorial Service for Ray Knox will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Blanco United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gem of the Hills, All Faiths Medical Mission (both in Blanco, Texas) or the charity of your choice. Born Raymond Sullivan Knox on September 7, 1922, in Temple, Oklahoma, Ray graduated from OU with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering. He served as a U.S. Marine Corp. naval aviator in both World War II and the Korean War flying 90 combat missions. He was awarded four Air Medals before being released from active duty as Captain USMCR. Professionally, Ray worked as a Project Engineer for Mobil Oil Company, opened the Houston branch office of B-W Construction Company, and formed and operated his own company, Rayko Construction Company, until he sold it to his employees in 1977. The company remains in existence operating under the name Brookstone. Ray retired to the Texas Hill Country where he lived outside of Blanco, Texas. He was active in his community and church. Ray passed away April 4, 2009, from Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his wife, Edythe, and his daughters, Kristi Knox Downey and her husband Gordon Downey, and Jan Knox Mathews and her husband, Stan Mathews. He has two grandchildren, Ryan Mathews and Chenin Mathews. He will be missed by his family and friends. Crofts Funeral Home PO Box 6 Blanco, TX 78606 (830) 833-4523
