Richard Irwin Obituary

Richard "Cotton" Irwin
02/03/1930 - 12/04/2023
Richard "Cotton' Irwin was born on February 3, 1930 in Hot Springs, Ark., and passed away on December 4, 2023 in Houston, Texas. He grew up and worked on the family dairy farm in Hot Springs. He wed the love of his life, Joann McLeary in April of 1950. They moved to Houston, Texas in 1951 and had three children, David, Paul, and Laura. He worked for over 40 years building homes in the Hidden Valley subdivision in North Houston. Cotton was known as a kind, patient and honest man. His friends spanned generations, young and old. There was nothing Cotton couldn't do or fix. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will live forever in our hearts. He was predeceased by his 10 brothers and two sisters and his wife of 56 years, Joann. He is survived by his three children David and wife Carol, Paul and his wife, Elva, and Laura and her husband, Cliff; and numerous grandkids and great-grandkids. There will be no formal service but a private family gathering.

I certainly feel that Dear Mr. Irwin in finally with his love, Joann.

Long ago David offered to help me build a dog house for my kids first dog. Of course, Mr. Irwin saw how inept David and I were and with kind taking oh command, virtually built my kiddos a beautiful and functional dog house for their first pooch.

David and I just got out of the way and let Mr. Irwin do his magic. He built a dog house in minutes that David and I would probably still be working on. My children are in their fifties now and still talk about the generations of family dogs that occupied that perfect dog house.

I had the honor and pleasure to be with Mr. Irwin during a visit to the hill country.

He was still that kind, generous and loving man as he was a half century ago.

David and Carol and Paul and Elva, thank you for sharing Cotton with us.

We all grieve when someone special leaves us. But, we grieve with a smile in our heart for the meaningfulness Cotton gave to our lives.

Minette and I send all our peace, blessings and thankfulness for you and your family.

We love you all.
