Robert L. Curl, Jr., 43, passed 12/16/2010. He was a Houston Police Officer for 20 years and a Mentor for The Boys and Girls Club for 8 years.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife Sherry; daughters Jordan and Hailey; parents Mr.& Mrs. Robert Curl, Sr. and brother Anthony (Nicole). Thursday, 12/23/2010, visitation 9AM-9:45AM and funeral 10AM at SW Community Christian Center (The Bridge), 14880 Bellaire Blvd.

I had no idea that Robert had passed. We were together on an unfortunate day that changed his life. I think the love of his family was too much to give up and shortly after that is when he retired. In my 33 year career he was one of the most good natured Officers I had come across, no matter what was troubling him , he always had a good word and a friendly "hey Crellin ". God rest his soul and take him into His kingdom.

I forgot to put my info after submitting my message.
I am Kerry Samuel (worked Midwest Stirefront with Robert). It was I did talked him into taking time off to spend Christmas with you and the girls. I also spoke at his funeral. I happened to think about Robert a few days ago, I was looking at one of the HPD obituary page, and saw his name.
Then after further researching I was linked to this column. I immediately wanted to send my love to you and the girls, and share that moment I got to spend with him during his last days.
I pray that you and the girls are doing ok, we never got to formally meet, but Robert and I go back to his high school days, then found out he was related to my old partner Warren Jones. He and I had an immediate connection. He was such a great person and always talked about you and the girls.
I just wanted to send my love out to you and the girls, and also share with others out there what a great person he was..

I am still reflecting on my old friend. We had so much in common. He was my biggest supporter during my illness while serving as a Houston police officer. It was the talks and the constant check ins that Robert did that helped me make it back. I will never forget what he told me, "Man, you have to take care of yourself and be there for your family and those boys" I was out for a year, didn't know how I was going to make it financial. Robert's love for his family and his speech to me was a true blessing.
God made it possible for me to return back to work to thank him. I was sadden to hear about his health. I spent a many months with him afterward. He and I went ate lunch together many times during this period. I will never forget his last day of work, I took him home to pick up something. We spent a hour at his house talking about how much he loved his wife and girls.He showed me photos, talked about the repair he had made to his beautiful home, we stood outside and looked out into the streets, and just reflected on how bless we are.
He asked me once again, "How's the wife and the boys doing" He then said, "Man HPD just going to have to wait, I'm going to take some time off and spend Christmas with my wife and girls"
My buddy never made it back to work. but his love for his family and his passion to work with less fortunate kids moved me. I realized then how much he and I had in common. I will forever remember my old buddy.

Curl was one of my PAL officers, he was a great guy and a great PAL officer. He loved being a PAL officer and the kids loved him. He was good at coaching football and basketball, but needed a little help coaching volleyball from myself, my sister and my niece!! He will be missed by his fellow officers.
